He’s an impulsive road-tripper. After high school, he went to Australia with 4 grand, an iPod and a camera. He went without a plan and stayed for 5 months working on a boat and waiting on tables in a piano bar.
Michael’s kind, approachable disposition gives way to an undeniable confidence onstage. This young man can break hearts playing solo with an acoustic guitar and loop pedal, and equally make venues soar with a full band. In Canada, Michael tours regularly from coast to coast.
He plays a guitar that is considered the workhorse of acoustics, a Gibson J45 (he has one in sunburst and natural); part of his passion for real instruments B3's, Leslies, tube amplifiers, saxophones and drum kits.
“I love Paul Simon, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Seger, Feist, Souls of Mischief and Mason Jennings,” declares Michael. His favorite lyric of all time is from Paul Simon’s Graceland album "My traveling companion is nine years old, he is the child of my first marriage.” (As a young boy, Michael and his mom used to dance to Graceland.)
Michael’s forthcoming debut US album was recorded in a little studio in Hollywood, California. The song “Man Overboard” was written while joking around and singing the verses to Billy Joel's “We Didn't Start The Fire”. Inspiration for his music often comes to him at a lightning fast pace. “In Your Room” and “Love Is An Easy Thing To Miss” were written in about as long as it takes to sing them. Without any words written down, done from voice note recordings on his phone both songs were written in minutes. "Marvin's Room' by Drake inspired the guitar for 'Love is an Easy Thing to Miss”. “In Your Room” was written at 10PM after a long day with not much flowing and many breaks. Thinking he was done for the day, he sat down one more time, started playing the guitar and making up the verses as he went along. Recorded the song that night, and went to bed.
Michael Bernard Fitzgerald “MBF” has a simple goal - to pursue his craft as honestly as possible - devoid of smoke and mirrors. Positively uplifting.
Brand New Spaces

Im gone,
Gotta go get my move on,
Ive been hangin here for days.
Accept my resignation,
Give me my cheque,
Please understand this will be the last peck,
I checked the weather forecast,
Not a cloud in the sky,
My bags are all packed now and you wonder why,
We're a roller coaster,
You're a roller coaster I swear.
And we cant afford the rent,
This love's all but spent,
I can barely sleep the night,
Dreaming about brand new spaces and brand new faces yeah
Dreaming about brand new spaces and brand new faces yeah.
Go ahead and throw something,
Objects hard to find,
The vase is still broken from last time,
Have you lost your temper yet
Wheres the romance in watching tv,
Wheres the future,
Stale air will bring a stale me,
Im better off with guitars and paper.
And we cant afford the rent,
This love's all but spent,
I can barely sleep the night,
Dreaming about brand new spaces and brand new faces yeah
Dreaming about brand new spaces and brand new faces yeah.
You're a rollercoaster baby I swear,
You're a rollercoaster baby I swear.
I'm a rollercoaster, too
It was nice to meet you nice, to meet you
You're a rollercoaster baby I swear,
You're a rollercoaster baby I swear.
I'm a rollercoaster, too
It was nice to meet you nice, to meet you
What about Fredrick,
Hes already in the truck,
The dog's with me babe,
On that you can go and get stuck
Were ditching this train wreck together
I said the dog's with me babe,
Were ditching this train wreck together
And we cant afford the rent,
This love's all but spent,
I can barely sleep the night,
Dreaming about brand new spaces and brand new faces yeah
Dreaming about brand new spaces and brand new faces yeah.
The song "Brand New Spaces" is about leaving a relationship that is no longer working out for the better. The lyrics suggest that the singer is tired of being stuck in a rut and is now ready to move on to something new. The singer has packed their bags and left the relationship, asking for their cheque and accepting the consequences of their decision. The lyrics mention that the singer has been waiting for something to spark, but it seems like nothing is happening.
The chorus of the song talks about how the love between the two partners has run out of steam, and it's time to move on to new things. The singer can't sleep at night because they are dreaming about all the new possibilities and spaces that are waiting for them. The bridge talks about how the relationship could have worked out differently but instead, it's turned into something broken and not salvageable. Finally, the singer tells their partner that they are not alone in this; they have packed up everything and are ditching this train wreck together.
Overall, the song is about the realization that sometimes relationships don't work out, and it's essential to move on to something better, even if it's not easy.
