Babylon
Michael Drew Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You had enough
You have your crown
Now break it
You tricky changer
If you take your chance
You look so numb
Fake it all the time
You dim the light
I roll the dice
Too many hips
Too many nights
You hate them
You put your pants on
Forget the words for
What was the sign
For madness
Fish don't belong in the world of Babylon
You seven arm
Know what you hide
I said aha
You made it
Can smash the chain
If you take a knife
You take a prawn
And break it
You ate your turd
You dirty mind
You have your water cleaned
Is it clean enough?
You look so tender
Not an offender
I like your flesh
Come save me
Fish don't belong in the world of Babylon
Goddam little mockers when they try to celebrate
Looking all so modern like you're sitting on a plate
Gained a little weight now I'm ripped enough to stay
Got a little warmer, (sorry) gonna go away, hey
Fish knows
Fish don't belong in the world of Babylon
In Michael Drew's song "Babylon," the lyrics convey a sense of rebellion and defiance against societal expectations and norms. The opening lines, "You set it high, You had enough, You have your crown, Now break it," suggest that the singer has achieved success but is unwilling to conform to the expectations associated with it. They are ready to challenge the status quo and break away from the constraints imposed upon them.
The lyrics also touch upon the idea of putting on a facade or pretending. The lines "You look so numb, Don't fake it, Fake it all the time" hint at the pressure to pretend and conform to a certain image, even when it goes against one's true feelings or desires. The singer refuses to play this game, preferring authenticity over superficiality.
The comparison to Babylon further reinforces the theme of non-conformity. "Fish don't belong in the world of Babylon" implies that the singer feels out of place in a society that values materialism, superficiality, and conformity. They reject the idea of fitting in and instead embrace their individuality, symbolized by the fish that swims against the current.
Overall, the lyrics of "Babylon" express a desire to break free from societal expectations, embrace authenticity, and resist the pressure to conform.

I want to know what the meaning of this song is it just feels like it has a meaning
Michael Drew
Babylon is a song about social inequalities and the struggles of the people who try to make their voices heard. But pushing the ideas a bit forward about this goal of being heard, we jump a bit into the legend of the Tower of Babel located (in theory) in Babylon where "the one" language was mixed into many different languages and people couldn't understand each other anymore. And here enters the fish in our story. This none talking creature moves its mouth every day but nobody can hear them and nobody can understand a fish. Was the fish part of Babylon? Did the fish also lost it's ability to talk? All these are imaginary questions. Sometimes I feel like a fish.
What is your interpretation of the song?
