Medley: Come Back To Me
Michael Feinstein Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Hear my voice, where you are, take a train, steal a car,
Hop a freight, grab a star, come back to me.
Catch a flame, catch a breeze, on your hand, on your knees,
Swim up high, only please come on back to me.
On a mule, in a jet, with your hair in a net,
In a shower wet, I don't care.
This is where you should be, from the hills to the shore,
By the wind to my door, raise the highway dust,
Break the law if you must, throw the world, only just
Come back to me.

Blast your hide, you recall, must I fight City hall
Here and now, damn it all, come on back to me,
Where on earth must I be, still I yell till I'm blue,
In control then when you come on back to me.
Have you gone to the moon, or the corner saloon
And to crack and to croon, oh my girl, where in hell can you be?
In a crate, in a trunk, on a horse, on a junk,
In a road or a van, wrapped in mink or saran,
Anyway that you can, came back to me,

Come back to me, come back to me, come back,
Come back to me, me!

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Michael Feinstein's song Medley: Come Back To Me tell the story of a person who desperately wants their loved one to come back to them. The lyrics are full of vivid imagery and metaphors, as the person asks their loved one to take any means necessary to return to them. The lyrics in the first paragraph describe the different ways the loved one could travel to return: "take a train, steal a car, hop a freight, grab a star". They continue with the person asking their loved one to come back to them, no matter the means of travel, and even if they have to break the law.

In the second paragraph, the desperation is compounded as the person wonders where their loved one could be. They ask if they have gone to the moon or the corner saloon, and plead for them to come back to them. The lyrics become more exasperated as the person asks if they have to fight city hall to get their loved one back. Finally, they end with a plea for their loved one to come back to them, sung in a more intense and urgent tone than the previous verses.

Darren is so gorgeous and talented. His voice is amazing and just seems to get better as he ages.

John Hancock

Either the sound guys made Darren more balanced or he has an insane blending ability. Because when he does his harmony it’s quieter and doesn’t take over

Ashley Brubaker

He's had a lot of training and experience! I'm sure he was able to figure out when he needed to step it up and when to keep it quieter.

Silésia Souza

O que posso falar Darren e tudo de bom.
