One More Try
Michael George Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I've had enough of danger
And people on the streets
I'm looking out for angels
Just trying to find some peace
Now I think it's time
That you let me know
So if you love me
Say you love me
But if you don't just let me go

'Cause teacher
There are things that I don't want to learn
And the last one I had
Made me cry
So I don't want to learn to
Hold you, touch you
Think that you're mine
Because it ain't no joy
For an uptown boy
Whose teacher has told him goodbye, goodbye, goodbye

When you were just a stranger
And I was at your feet
I didn't feel the danger
Now I feel the heat
That look in your eyes
Telling me no
So you think that you love me
Know that you need me
I wrote the song, I know it's wrong
Just let me go

And teacher
There are things
That I don't want to learn
Oh the last one I had
Made me cry
So I don't want to learn to
Hold you, touch you
Think that you're mine
Because it ain't no joy
For an uptown boy
Whose teacher has told him goodbye, goodbye, goodbye

So when you say that you need me
That you'll never leave me
I know you're wrong, you're not that strong
Let me go

And teacher
There are things
That I still have to learn
But the one thing I have is my pride
Oh so I don't want to learn
Hold you, touch you
Think that you're mine
Because there ain't no joy
For an uptown boy
Who just isn't willing to try

I'm so cold

Inside
Maybe just one more try

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of George Michael's "One More Try" portray a character who has had it with danger and the troubles that come with it. Instead, he seeks peace and angels in his life. He implores his lover to express his true feelings for him, but only if they love him. If they don't, he just wants to be set free. The character has had some terrible experiences in the past that have brought him to tears, and he doesn't want to relive them again. He doesn't want to learn how to hold, touch, or think that his lover is his because he's an uptown boy who has faced rejection before. However, he acknowledges that there are things he needs to learn, but he won't let go of his pride. He's scared but may be willing to try again.

The overall theme of the song is relatable as most of us have had a fair share of heartbreaks and insecurities in our lives. This song beautifully captures the fear that comes with love and the complexity of relationships. It's about wanting to trust someone but being afraid of getting hurt again. It also shows us that even when we're scared, we can try one more time.

I too used to listen to certain music during my "black hole" years. Ultimately psychotherapy and later medication pulled me back to the life I had left. Now, age 77, all's well. So don't ever give up; there is help - you just have to ask for it.

@Nock4Six

Hugs.

You can sleep better giving thanks every night and praying for your loved ones, it won't happen overnight but eventually your dreams will be better they will become goofy , give thanks
