Knott's music has not been without controversy in Christian circles, particularly due to profanity in the song "Rocket and a Bomb" (from the self-titled release of his former band Aunt Bettys) and original artwork in that album of Jesus Christ as a bartender.
Knott explained some of his views in an interview with HM Magazine, saying "Basically, I'm a human being and I believe in Christ, period. It doesn't make my life rosy, it doesn't make my life terrible, it doesn't do anything with that. I know Christ."
Michael Knott is also the founder of the now defunct independent record label, Blonde Vinyl Records.

Blood On My Hands
Michael Knott Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Pushin' the nail to the bitter end
Why must I be pushin' the nail
Stickin' the thorns inside till it hides
Stickin' the thorn in till it hides
Why must I be stickin' the thorn
Why must I be stickin' the thorn
I've got blood on my hands
I've got hate in my heart
It's all a part of pushin' the nail
Rollin' some dice 'round town for some cape
Slingin' some tails 'round till they hit
Why must I be rollin' someone's dice
Why must I be swingin' some tails
I've got blood on my hands
I've got lust in my heart
It's all a part of pushin' the nail
I've got murder in my heart
I've got lust so strong it's real
I've got blood on my hands
It's all a part of pushin' the nail
The lyrics of Michael Knott's song "Blood on My Hands" reflect on the singer's actions and motivations, questioning why they continue their destructive behavior. The repetition of the phrases "pushin' the nail" and "stickin' the thorn" emphasizes the idea of intentional self-inflicted pain, implying that the singer is aware of the harm they are causing themselves.
The lines "Rollin' some dice 'round town for some cape/Slingin' some tails 'round till they hit" suggest a reckless and possibly illicit lifestyle, with the singer engaging in activities that are both dangerous and potentially harmful to others. The repeated line "I've got blood on my hands" reinforces the idea that the singer is responsible for the harm they have caused and carries a sense of guilt and remorse.
The final lines of the song reveal the extent of the singer's inner turmoil, with references to "murder" and "lust" indicating a deeper psychological disturbance. The lyrics suggest that the singer is struggling with internal demons, unable to break free from their destructive cycle of behavior.
Overall, "Blood on My Hands" is a powerful and evocative exploration of guilt, self-harm, and internal conflict, with Michael Knott's haunting lyrics and melancholic melody capturing the depth and complexity of the human psyche.
