We wish you a merry Christmas
We wish you a merry Christmas
And a happy New Year.
Glad tidings we bring
To you and your kin;
Glad tidings for Christmas
And a happy New Year!
We want some figgy pudding
We want some figgy pudding
We want some figgy pudding
Please bring it right here!
Glad tidings we bring
To you and your kin;
Glad tidings for Christmas
And a happy New Year!
We won't go until we get some
We won't go until we get some
We won't go until we get some
So bring it out here!
Glad tidings we bring
To you and your kin;
Glad tidings for Christmas
And a happy New Year!
We wish you a Merry Christmas
We wish you a Merry Christmas
We wish you a Merry Christmas
And a happy New Year.
Glad tidings we bring
To you and your kin;
Glad tidings for Christmas
And a happy New Year!
The song “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” by Michael Sarver is a classic Christmas carol that is easily recognizable and has been sung for many years. The opening verses of the song consist of a group of people wishing the listener a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. They offer “glad tidings” for both holidays and extend their well-wishes to the listener’s family as well.
However, the plot of the song takes a humorous turn when the group says they want some “figgy pudding” and “won’t go until we get some”. The phrase “figgy pudding” refers to a traditional English dessert that is made with figs and raisins. The group of singers demands the dessert from the listener and refuses to leave until they are given some. This comical request adds a lighthearted tone to the song, making it a cheerful and fun tune to sing.
Overall, “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” by Michael Sarver is a beloved holiday song that encapsulates the joy and merriment of the season. Its simple, catchy melody and humorous lyrics make it a popular choice for Christmas carolers and casual listeners alike.
