Then, Michelle David & The Gospel Sessions became a band name (album released: 'The Gospel Session, Vol. 4').
And then, in April 2021, David announced that The Gospel Sessions doesn't really reflect their musical style anymore. They go from gospel to soul, from afro-funk to calypso, all the way to Moroccan 'gnaws'.
Therefore: goodbye Gospel Sessions, welcome Michelle David & The True-tones. It's the same band, with a new name as per April 2021. The four Gospel Sessions albums are now listed under Michelle David & The True-tones on all streaming platforms. The band's first single under the new name was 'Yes I Know' in April 2021.
Some biographical information...
Michelle David (born 28 August 1966 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, United States) is an American soul and gospel singer. She has been based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, since 1994.
David started singing in church in North Carolina when she was four years old and, aged five, joined her first gospel group, The Mission Of Love. At age 10, David moved to New York City with her mother and attended the Fame School of Performing Arts, graduating in 1984. She contributed to the film 'Ghostbusters' (1984), studied medicine and, by 1991, auditioned for musicals. Touring internationally with the Broadway musical, 'Mama, I Want To Sing', Michelle ended up in Germany, where she sang in the gospel group, The Golden Gospel Singers (1992-1994).
After her move to The Netherlands in 1994 David was a part of many more musical and gospel productions in both The Netherlands and the United States, including 'The Sound Of Motown', 'The Glory Of Gospel' and 'R.E.S.P.E.C.T.'. She sang background vocals for Michael Bolton and Diana Ross and in 2002 became a member of Dutch vocal group, Big, Black & Beautiful.
David started working with Onno Smit and Paul Willemsen (members of Amsterdam-based bands Lefties Soul Connection and Beans & Fatback) and released three albums with them: The Gospel Sessions, Vol. 1 (2015), The Gospel Sessions, Vol. 2 (2016) and The Gospel Sessions Vol. 3 (2018).
The albums were originally credited to Michelle David alone (entitled 'The Gospel Sessions'), but over time The Gospel Sessions started feeling like a band name. By the time The Gospel Sessions, Vol. 4 (2020) came out, Michelle David & The Gospel Sessions was the official name of the band.
All of that is history now. All previous Gospel Sessions albums are now filed under Michelle David & The True-tones on all streaming platforms, so scrobbles will appear here.

Yea though I walk through the shadows of my mind.
What will I find... Are you there
What if I didn't wanna lift my hands Or do my praise Or shout glory. Will you still be there.
Would you cut me off Would you turn me around Will my feet no longer be on solid ground
Will you be there
Chorus
What manner of love is this That surpasses all understanding That keeps you loving...So all our lives go on expanding
Allowing Me to fulfil ... to go on and go forth I can't be still
Yes I know he will Cause he said he would And I know he will
What if I haven't done it all well And I made my bed in hell Are you really there
I guess I'm tryna to figure it out Sometimes I wanna scream out doubts Ohh please be there
This just for moments sake I know who you are and I will not break I believe you're there
Chorus
What manner of love is this That surpasses all understanding That keeps you loving...So all our lives go on expanding The keeper of my soul.... the one who's always in control Allowing Me to fulfil ... to go on and go forth I can't be still
Yes I know he will Cause he said he would And I know he will
VAMP
Said He would Aahhh be right there Lover of my soul Always in control
The lyrics to Michelle David & The Gospel Sessions's song "I Know the Lord" speak of the singer's struggle with doubts about the presence of God in her life. She questions whether God will abandon her if she fails to praise Him, or if she makes mistakes that lead her down a path away from God. However, she ultimately finds solace in the fact that God's love surpasses all understanding and that He is always in control of her life. The lyrics continue to express her faith that God will remain present regardless of her actions or feelings and that He will help her fulfill her purpose and move forward in her life.
The use of imagery in the lyrics is also notable as it describes walking through the shadows of the mind and making a bed in hell. These lines add a dimension of darkness and despair to the song, highlighting the depth of the singer's doubts and fears. However, the chorus provides a message of hope, emphasizing that God's love is all-encompassing and can help us move forward.
Overall, "I Know the Lord" is a poignant expression of the struggles many people face with their faith and belief in a higher power. While the lyrics initially highlight the uncertainties and worries that can accompany this journey, it ultimately offers a message of hope and reassurance.
