They had three major hits in the UK singles chart, all of them bubblegum pop classics: "Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep" (Number 1), "Tweedle Dee Tweedle Dum" (Number 2) and "Soley Soley" (Number 5), all in 1971. But in other European countries, their success continued well into 1972 and 1973, with songs like "Sacramento", "Samson and Delilah", "Bottom's Up" and "The Talk of All the USA".

Honey No
Middle Of The Road Lyrics

Hear me say:
Ah get on home!
Come on
Come on
The hour is getting late now
Come on
Come on
It's all right for you
You've got nothing to do
You'll stay in bed all day tomorrow
But what about me
I've gotta work until three.
I know I won't make it through.
Save my soul
Honey no
Honey no.
Won't you please say we've got to be goin'
Stop that old Johanna blowin'
Boogie woogie flowin
We've got to be gettin' home.
Save my soul
Honey no
Honey no
Won't you please stop your rock and a' rollin'.
Stop that sentimental strollin'
Southern gospel soul
And we've got to be gettin' home.
Ah get on home now!
Hear me say:
Ah get on home!
Come on
Come on
You don't want to get me uptight.
Come on
Come on
I don't want to start a fight
I've swung to the blues and I've ruined my shoes.
I'll never find the like again!
But all you can say
Is what-cha want me to play
You know I can't take much more.
Save my soul
Honey no
Honey no . . .
Ah get on home now!
Hear me say:
Ah get on home!
The lyrics of Middle Of The Road's song "Honey No" narrate the plea of a frustrated and exhausted lead singer who wants to go home after a gig. He asks his bandmates to stop playing and pack up as it's getting late, and expresses his resentment towards them for not understanding how tired he is. The lyrics depict the lead singer's annoyance towards his fellow band members who don't seem to care about how tired he feels after performing, and instead just want to continue playing. He also expresses his frustration about having to work the next day while they can sleep in.
The song is essentially about the lead singer's longing to go home after a tiresome night, and the inability of his bandmates to understand and sympathize with him. The repeated phrase "save my soul, honey no" is a cry for help from the lead singer, who just wants to rest and get some sleep.
