They play dirty-organ-rock, stadium-disco-metal and sci-fi rollerskating jams. This New Technology
Midnight Juggernauts Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I ask why restrain your mind in chains
If I am to die before I wake
Pray to Mercury my soul to take
Cry it from the mountaintop
Roll it through the streets
Free my soul
Now we control
Live and die, their music stays unplayed
Scared to fly, too scared to brave those flames
Never heard or read the words you wrote
Let it slide or take it by the throat
In "This New Technology," Midnight Juggernauts sings of being unchained from the limits of fate and taking control of their lives through the power of technology. The opening lines suggest a rejection of the idea of predetermined destiny, and a call to liberate oneself from self-imposed limitations. The prayer to Mercury, the Roman god of commerce and communication, seems to reflect a desire for guidance and assistance in navigating the rapidly evolving technological landscape.
The chorus, with its repeated exhortation to "Free my soul / Now we control / This new technology," celebrates the potential of technology to unlock new possibilities and transcend old boundaries. In the second verse, the band takes on those who are afraid to take risks or embrace change, urging them to let go of their fears and seize the opportunities that lie before them. The final line, "Let it slide or take it by the throat," suggests that there is no middle ground when it comes to pursuing one's dreams and passions - one must be willing to either let them go entirely or pursue them with unbridled intensity.
Overall, "This New Technology" is a motivational anthem that encourages listeners to embrace innovation, take risks, and seize control of their lives.
