Big Girl
Mika Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Big girl, you are beautiful

Walks in to the room
Feels like a big balloon
Big girl you are beautiful

Diet Coke and a pizza please
Diet Coke, I'm on my knees
Screaming, "Big girl, you are beautiful"

You take your skinny girl
I feel like I'm gonna die
'Cause a real woman
Needs a real man, here's why

You take your girl
And multiply her by four
Now a whole lot of woman
Needs a whole lot more

Get yourself to the butterfly lounge
Find yourself a big lady
Big boy, come on around
And there we're gonna do baby

No need to fantasize
Since I was in my braces
A watering hole with the girls around
And curves in all the right places

Big girls, you are beautiful
Big girls, you are beautiful
Big girls, you are beautiful
Big girls, you are beautiful

Walks in to the room
Feels like a big balloon
I said, "Hey girls, you are beautiful"

Diet Coke and a pizza please
Diet Coke, I'm on my knees
Screaming, "Big girl, you are beautiful"

You take your girl
And multiply her by four
Now a whole lot of woman
Needs a whole lot more

Get yourself to the butterfly lounge
Find yourself a big lady
Big boy, come on around
And there we're gonna do baby

No need to fantasize
Since I was in my braces
A watering hole with the girls around
And curves in all the right places

Big girls, you are beautiful
Big girls, you are beautiful
Big girls, you are beautiful
Big girls, you are beautiful

Get yourself to the butterfly lounge
Find yourself a big lady
Big boy, come on around
And there we're gonna do baby

No need to fantasize
Since I was in my braces
A watering hole with the girls around
And curves in all the right places

Big girls, you are beautiful
Big girls, you are beautiful
Big girls, you are beautiful
Big girls, you are beautiful
Oh, you are beautiful

Get yourself to the butterfly lounge
Find yourself a big lady
Big boy, come on around
And there we're gonna do baby

No need to fantasize
Since I was in my braces
A watering hole with the girls around
And curves in all the right places

Big girls, you are beautiful
Big girls, you are beautiful
Big girls, you are beautiful
Big girls, you are beautiful
Oh, you are beautiful

Get yourself to the butterfly lounge
Find yourself a big lady
Big boy, come on around
And there we're gonna do baby

No need to fantasize
Since I was in my braces
A watering hole with the girls around
And curves in all the right places

Big girl, you are beautiful
Big girl, you are beautiful
Big girl, you are beautiful

Big girl, you are beautiful
Big girl, you are beautiful

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Mika's song "Big Girl" celebrate and embrace the beauty of big, curvy women. The song opens with Mika addressing big girls as beautiful and admiring them as they walk into a room. He compares their current feeling of fullness to that of being a big balloon. Mika then declares his love for pizza and Diet Coke, showcasing his appreciation for indulging in food regardless of social norms.

He further emphasizes his preference for big girls by making a comparison between them and skinny girls, claiming that "real women need real men". Therefore, he advocates for a whole lot of woman since that's what real men need. The chorus of the song continues to celebrate big girls, stating that their curves are right where they should be, and they are beautiful. The lyrics also encourage big girls to be confident and embrace their beauty despite societal standards.

The song's upbeat tempo and catchy chorus make it an anthem for body positivity that encourages the idea of embracing one's curves instead of conforming to the unrealistic standards set by society.

Laura Williams I see the butterfly Lounge has been closed for a couple of years now. Good memories of nice and fun people. Saw the page of when the club owner miss Kathleen divine met Mika at an Avalon concert he did in Los Angeles back when his album came out:

My night with MIKA
BFLMikaShow05.jpg (99205 bytes)

I have so much to tell you all, I had an unforgettable experience that I want to share with you!

This experience was life changing for me and I hope for all of you!

Monique, Jenn and I met with MIKA at his Record release party Monday night in Hollywood !

On my way in I met Danny Bonaduce and yes he is built and hot! There was a huge line outside and we were sent in early as VIP’s! There I met Perez Hilton and we talked for quite a while. I am a huge fan; he was very easy to talk with and told me how he loved our song, “Big Girl”! Then in walked Andy Dick who approached Perez and we all chatted. The press hit us and cameras were flashing like crazy! At this point I was thinking OMG this is crazy! Here I am standing with 2 stars and all I can see are flashes lol

MIKA came out and performed 4 songs and I have to tell you all he sounds excellent live! I have been to tons of concerts and have been let down many times by live performances but not this night! After the show the crowd was sent outside I was able to meet with MIKA. I went to shake his hand and found that instead we were hugging.

He grabbed both of my shoulders and said to me, “I wrote you this song; Big Girl (you are beautiful) this is your song!”

We talked about the BBC special I had done years ago with Victoria Wood. He told me how he was watching the show and we both agreed that in the beginning of the show it seemed as though they were talking about how being overweight was something to be ashamed of. Then he said to me when they got to the part where The Butterfly Lounge was featured how the show took a turn and sent a message to everyone saying, “Love yourself for who you are!” He told me he was so inspired that he started writing our song right then! At this point the media was all over MIKA and I, you never would believe how blinded one could get from so many flashes. It was a moment I will never forget; He gave me tons of signed posters and a few full CD’s for the nightclub. He told me he is there for us! I have to say MIKA has a huge heart and it as genuine as they come! He is absolutely adorable, just an FYI for those of you who want too know. He told me that as soon as his schedule opens up that he will be personally visiting our nightclub! (Looks like it will be sometime in April) He also asked for our logo and is having shirts printed out and will be wearing them very soon!!!

I then spoke with his mother who said to me; “Thank you for creating such a wonderful nightclub and how pleased she was that MIKA was able to write such a beautiful song!” We took a few photos together and she told me that her and MIKA will be visiting our nightclub very soon. There is a picture of us on the Butterfly Lounge website.

All in all it was an AWESOME night for us all, as well as The Size Acceptance Community!

Now there is a very positive song out there BIG GIRLS YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL!!! (As stated in the song)

His new record; “Life in Cartoon Motion” is now available in the US and he is hitting the circuit via television and radio!

Much love to you all,
Kathleen

mika manages to sing and pose with large ladies and not come across as sexist, pervy or even slightly judgemental. must be a gift

@mandlin4602

He’s gay, and his genuine concern intent is to liberate women. Most the time when straight men do it it’s to manipulate insecure women into sex.

The video and song is very feminine. Femininity is celebrated and not monopolised. That’s the difference.

The glamorous ladies here are presented as powerful and brave people he’s proud to be around. Not his belongings.

@littlewolfpovs9164

He is just so fucking wholesome and btw I don't think he was out as gay yet when this song was released. Mika just has a wholesome good guy vibe, can't explain it anyway else

@janinealexander6132

He hadn't came out at the time. I still have a huge crush on him even though I'm not his 'type'. It's his energy and positivity that's magnetic!
