Perry's breakthrough came in 2016 with the release of his single "The Ocean" on April 15. He continued his momentum in 2016 with the tropical house track "Touching You Again," produced in collaboration with Hot Shade, Jane XØ, and singer Phoebe Ryan.
In 2017, Perry announced his forthcoming single "Hands" featuring American singer Sabrina Carpenter and British boy band The Vamps. The track was released later that month, further adding to Perry's discography.
Continuing to release music, Perry dropped singles in 2018, including "California" featuring Hot Shade and Karlyn, and "Don't Hide" with Willemijn May. These tracks achieved chart success in Sweden, reaching number 35 and number 31, respectively.
On January 18, 2019, Perry released "Runaway," which secured the number 1 position in the United States, Chile, and Hungary. So I am sorry if I ever let you down
You know I'm trying to make it all better now
Just believe that things will change
Somebody told me I've been on this road too long
So I'm sorry if I ever let you down
You know I'm trying to make it all better now
Just believe I'm making changes
I fell maybe a million times
I've walked into a thousand fires
But I know it's gonna be alright
Yeah, it's gonna be alright
I say, "No" to the non-believers
I say, "No" to being defeated
Won't let go 'cause I can almost see it
Ooh
Somebody told me I've been on this road too long
So I am sorry if I ever let you down
You know I'm trying to make it all better now
Just believe I'm making changes
Somebody told me I've been on this road too long
So I'm sorry if I ever let you down
You know I'm trying to make it all better now
Just believe I'm making changes
Mike Perry's song "Changes" is an anthem of perseverance and determination. The opening lyrics speak to the challenges the singer has faced: "Somebody told me I've been on this road too long." This could refer to the music industry, or to life in general. Regardless, the sentiment of weariness and exhaustion is palpable. However, the singer quickly offers an apology for any mistakes or shortcomings: "So I am sorry if I ever let you down." It's clear that the singer is making an effort to reconcile any past mistakes and move forward. The chorus offers a glimmer of hope: "Just believe that things will change...Just believe I'm making changes." The power of self-belief and determination is a central theme in the song.
The second verse continues this theme of resilience. The singer acknowledges the difficulties they've faced, including failures and setbacks: "I fell maybe a million times/I've walked into a thousand fires." However, they remain optimistic: "But I know it's gonna be alright/Yeah, it's gonna be alright." This optimism is tempered with a fierce determination to succeed: "I say 'No' to the non-believers/I say 'No' to being defeated." The singer is unwilling to let go of their dreams, even in the face of adversity: "Won't let go 'cause I can almost see it."
Overall, "Changes" is a powerful message of hope and perseverance. It speaks to the idea that no matter what challenges we face, we have the power to overcome them through hard work and self-belief.
