After turning eighteen, he began to frequent the clubs and listened to great local blues talents including native Mississippian, B.B. King. Formal music studies at Berklee College of Music in Boston and California State University at Northridge continued to expand his musical talents.
After that, Mike moved to Montana and honed his entertaining skills in ski resorts, where his varied and spirited sets included Beatles tunes, romantic film themes, and finger-busting boogie-woogie numbers.
Mike’s next home was Seattle for 26 years where he built a solid career as a performer, composer and recording artist. He started arranging popular music and creating CDs that were a mixture of well-known melodies and some original works. His own works were varied – some lush, orchestral and cinematic, some smooth jazz, some blues and boogie flavored and others almost new age. Sales of these CDs climbed to over 350,000 and are distributed throughout the nation and digitally throughout the world.
In the last 15 years, Mike has concertized as a solo piano artist, with The Mike Strickland Duo, and with The Mike Strickland Trio. He is known for his exceptional musicianship and arrangements, his virtuosic technique, and his unmatched ability to connect with the audience on a personal level. His music outreach, mentoring programs, and master-classes are always enjoyed by up and coming artists in the communities where he concertizes. Mike’s unique and colorful programming of his concerts is always a hit with audiences. Daughter Elizabeth, a fine classical pianist, often joins him as a special guest. He enjoys showcasing other young talent as often as he can.
As a composer, Mike has always been inspired and driven by melody. He also loves to experiment with motion and texture, using the piano as his own orchestra. He has worked hard at developing his own unique style of piano artistry and has racked up some impressive achievements. In addition to his music airing for 7 seasons on CBS Sports PGA Golf, it has also been heard on the NBC, FOX and ABC networks as well as two major motion pictures. Mike’s positive message song/animation “Spread Joy” was also featured on ABC Good Morning America.
In March of 2011, Mike debuted several original works as a featured piano soloist with the Salem Pops Orchestra. March of 2013 found Mike in another featured performance with the Salem Pops where he debuted more of his original orchestrations.
In October 2014 he released his 22nd CD titled “Fantasy” which features all original compositions for solo piano.

My Heart Will Go On
Mike Strickland Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I see you, I feel you,
That is how I know you go on
Far across the distance
And spaces between us
You have come to show you go on
I believe that the heart does go on
Once more you open the door
And you're here in my heart
And my heart will go on and on
Love can touch us one time
And last for a lifetime
And never let go till we're one
Love was when I loved you
One true time I hold to
In my life we'll always go on
Near, far, wherever you are
I believe that the heart does go on
Once more you open the door
And you're here in my heart
And my heart will go on and on
There is some love that will not go away
You're here, there's nothing I fear,
And I know that my heart will go on
We'll stay forever this way
You are safe in my heart
And my heart will go on and on
The lyrics to Mike Strickland's "My Heart Will Go On" take the listener on a journey of love that transcends space and time. The singer of the song describes how they see and feel their loved one every night in their dreams, and how this is evidence that their love lives on. Even though there may be great distances and obstacles, the one they love has come to show that they will always go on.
The repeated refrain, "Near, far, wherever you are," emphasizes the idea that love knows no bounds and can surpass any distance or separation. The singer believes that love is eternal and will continue to exist even after death. The line "Love was when I loved you, one true time I hold to," suggests that the singer's love is so strong that it transcends time and exists in a single moment that they hold on to forever.
The final verse emphasizes that this love will never go away and that the two will stay forever in each other's hearts. The repeated line "And my heart will go on and on" reinforces the notion that this love is infinite and eternal.

After listening to this, I want to learn how to play the piano. I want to be able to move people through my music, just as Mike moved me with this piece. I love it.
