I Am I Said#
Mikey Spice Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

L.A.′s fine, the sun shines most of the time
And the feeling is laid back (feeling is laid back oh)
Palm trees grow and rents are low
Don't you know
I keep working my way back

But I′m Jamaican boy born and raised
Nowadays, I'm lost between two shores
L.A.'s fine, but it ain′t home
New York is home,
But it ain′t mine no more

I am... I said
To no one there
And no one heard at all
Not even the chair

I am... I cried
I am... said I
And I am lost and I can't
Even say why
Leavin′ me lonely still

Did you read about a frog
Who dreamed of bein' a king
And they all became one
Except for the names
And a few other changes
You talk about me
The story is the same one

But I′ve got this emptiness deep inside
And it won't let me go
And I′m a man who don't like to swear
But I hate the sound of being alone

I am... I said
To no one there
And no one heard at all
Not even the chair
I am... I cried
I am ... said I
And I am lost and I can't
Even say why

I am... I said
To no one there
And no one heard at all
Not even the chair
I am... I cried
I am ... said I
And I am lost and I can′t

Even say why
Believe in loneliness

Overall Meaning

In "I Am I Said," Mikey Spice sings about feeling lost and experiencing an internal emptiness despite living in a comfortable environment. The song begins with him describing the pleasant aspects of Los Angeles such as the sunny weather, laid-back atmosphere, palm trees, and affordable rent. However, he still feels like he does not belong and yearns for his home country of Jamaica.

Mikey Spice reveals his struggle in feeling torn between two places, Los Angeles and New York, which he considers as home but no longer feels like his. He then confesses his loneliness and feeling of being lost. He describes this emptiness that is present inside of him as something that he cannot get rid of. Although he does not like swearing or cursing, he even hates the sound of being alone.

In the chorus, the phrase "I am" is repeated, emphasizing his feelings of isolation from those around him. He feels like no one understands his struggle, and he cannot even express why he feels the way he does. His cry for help gets no response, not even from a chair.
