Great tool, but man is it heavy 😮

iShootBandits

How come you cant purchase this saw in Europe?

Great tool but the cord is pure rubbish.
Took it out of the box, brand spanking new, and the outer jacket is delaminting. Aslo, I noticed that the power cord is UL 90°C yet only CSA 60°C...you guys need to up your game back to what Makita used to be.

StreetArtillery

I'm about to up my career by purchasing this saw. What does the presenter mean by "maintenance free"? Is there no oil in this worm saw?

Craftsman Trucker

@StreetArtillery, Hypoid Gears "Maintenance Free" meaning there's no need for Oil changes or Inspection and Adding of Oil in the System, Hypoid Gears are made out of High Quality Steel and it is Heat Treated compare to the Skilsaw's Old and Traditional Worm Drive Gear are made of Bronze Alloy and they don't last long enough and they tear and wear for a couple of years of use and abuse. Makita 5477NB and 5377MG are both Hypoid Gear Drive Saw NOT a Worm Drive they're different. And I'm a Carpenter and Deck Builder and I own 2 Makita's Hypoid Saw, I own a 5477NB I purchased this saw at the Home Depot 5477NB(Not a Magnesium model but a common Black painted Steel Shoe, and aluminum upper and aluminum retractable lower blade guard and the motor housing is made of High Quality and Construction Grade Plastic weighs around 14.3lbs. I also own a 5377MG 13lbs weight and Magnesium (I got this version 100% Made in Japan 🗾🇯🇵) I purchased this model 5377MG in Okinawa, Japan when I visited my Uncle there who was a retired US Navy. Anyway I got this saw 5377MG where everything is Magnesium except the Handle. But they're the same motor and Hypoid gears, same Torque, and RPM Range. And for owning this saw for 10 years now, I gotta tell you, this saw is a Tank.

Country of Origin/Manufacture please! I have two 30+ yr old Skilsaw 77s going strong - made in USA. Many newer saws are now made in China which I find to be lower quality in materials, machining, accuracy, longevity, toughness and warranty. No Chinese tools for me. I'll buy made in USA, Taiwan, Europe, Japan, Korea. I tried the Skil 120v 16" and 10" worms, both made in China. I returned both, not worthy investments. I'm still using my Makita 16" circ saw which is 38 yrs old, and made in Japan. Also 35+ yr old 6" Makita portable planer and Makita Chain Mortiser - also fine tools made in Japan , going strong.

Makita Tools USA

All Makita tools are manufactured by Makita, in Makita factories around the world. We do have a factory in China, but all Maktia tools are made to the same Makita standards.

Steven Miller, me too I do have an old Skil Worm Drive Circular Saw that I inherited from my Grandfather, I also have an Old Hart California Framer the very first California Framer 21oz framing hammer (before the Vaughan) I also have an old DeWalt corded hammer drill, Milwaukee 3-1/2" Plastic Collated Pneumatic framing nailer all of them are Made in The USA. I also do have an old Makita corded 7-1/4" circular saw, Corded 1/4" Impact Driver, Hammer Drill and the first cordless 18v impact driver all of them are originally made in Japan 🗾🇯🇵 . I also do have a Makita Hypoid Saw 5477NB originally made in Japan 🗾🇯🇵 also all of its labels are japanese so I don't use that saw that much in my jobsite because I'm afraid that it might get stolen so I bought another one at the home Depot 8 yrs ago same model but it's made in crappy Chyynnnaaaaa! But It gets the job done! I believe all of Makita components and parts are made in Japan except the Assembling Labor perhaps assembled and built in Chyynnnaaaaa! If I wanna buy more Makita then I'd rather buy it in Anjo, Japan or their Makita japanese website. I'm not a fanatic of Makita tools because I'm a typical DeWalt and Bosch Fanboy but I love Makita's Hypoid Saw! It's Hypoid gears that make the Makita saw a little bit better than the Skil Worm Drive saw because of the Hypoid Gears doesn't require too much maintenance perhaps it's a less maintenance saw. I don't have to worry about oil changing the gear ⚙️ because the Hypoid Gear doesn't need it.
