High
Miley Cyrus Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I got so high that I saw Jesus
He said it's all gonna be okay
You just need me in your heart
Tennessee Whiskey and love
I got so high that I saw Jesus

Yeah, they talk about the rivers running dry
How pretty soon there won't be any water left to turn to wine
Like a drunkard at the wedding
Blindly raising Armageddon
So, I'ma get high

And I got so high that I saw Jesus
He said it's all gonna be okay
You just need me in your heart
Tennessee Whiskey and love
I got so high that I saw Jesus

Yeah, Joseph lost his job to a machine
And Mary lost her mind to lines of code
You can't see
And if the angels are the A.I.
I'm gonna burn this whole thing down
I'm gonna burn one down right now

I got so high that I saw Jesus
He said it's all gonna be okay
All gonna be
You just need me in your heart
Tennessee Whiskey and love
I got so high that I saw Jesus

And sometimes, it hurts too much to look
Like Moses said, the burning bush
I tried to turn away, but I could see
He said, "Fathers, don't forsake your sons
There's so much kingdom left to come
Just let it fill your lungs before you leave"

And I got so high that I saw Jesus
He said it's all gonna be okay
You just need me in your heart
Tennessee Whiskey and love
I got so high that I saw Jesus

I got so high that I saw Jesus
I got so high that I saw Jesus

Overall Meaning

The song "High" by Miley Cyrus is a reflection of how difficult it is to cope with the current state of the world, and how people have turned to drugs and alcohol to cope with their struggles. The opening line of the song, "I got so high that I saw Jesus," is a metaphor for finding comfort and guidance in a higher power. The repetition of this phrase throughout the song shows how significant finding that comfort is to the singer.

The lyrics of the song explore the issues we face as a society, such as the depletion of natural resources, job loss to technology, and the dangers of artificial intelligence. The reference to Tennessee Whiskey and love serves as a reminder that despite all the challenges, love and the simple pleasures of life can still bring us joy.

The lines, "Like a drunkard at the wedding / Blindly raising Armageddon / So, I'ma get high," suggest that the singer is aware of the world's problems and the possibility of catastrophic events, but feels helpless and chooses to turn to drugs as an escape. However, the encounter with the metaphorical Jesus leads the singer to find hope and reassurance that everything will be okay as long as they have faith and love.

In conclusion, "High" portrays the reality of how unbearable life can be sometimes, and how people try to cope with their problems through the use of substances. However, it also suggests that having faith and love can provide comfort and hope.

I feel like we all act like we don’t miss an ex and that we don’t need them. We go around saying “fuck them” but then when you’re alone... and you sit down and you really think about it you lowkey miss the good memories or you’re just not completely over the break up. That’s how I feel when I listen to this song.

Nahh just you

@moonbeam3431

@@siofra0676 it’s okay to be hurt.

@moonbeam3431

I agree with this. It’s because people feel like being hurt means it was the wrong decision to end things. Or that it makes them weak. It doesn’t. The weak dont show how they feel. They hide. The strong show their emotions, conquer them, learn from them and move on even stronger.
