Don't Let Me Down
Milky Chance Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I seen her eyes and yet, she got me shinin'
Oh, she really did like no one ever did
I've seen 'em fall and yet, she made the call
And so much in my dream, you never can redeem

Just die a little bit, oh, fly a little
Forever leavin' ground, amazement all around
Please him, please him
When you leave him

Just don't let me down
I'm begging you
Just don't let me down
I'm begging you
I'm dreamin' of a dream that is never gonna end
Oh, you gotta see it, it'll treat you right
Just don't let me down
Heavenly

I seen your wings when they're workin', when they're open
When they take you out, what they bring back home, and
I seen this place when it's full of all the light that comes in
Between the moments, even if they're broken

And I was crawling with thoughts fallin' of pieces
Of things that we believe
Who are we to dream?
The wind was blowin', it's made itself at home
But it's leavin' and you're leavin'

Just don't let me down
I'm begging you, I'm begging you
Just don't let me down
I'm begging you, begging you
I'm dreamin' of a dream that is never gonna end
Oh, you gotta see it, it'll treat you right (treat you right)
Just don't let me down
Heavenly

There comes a day that I'm leavin'
Oh, I'm begging you, don't let me down (don't let me down)
Treat me right, treat me right
Heavenly

Just don't let me down
I'm begging you, I'm begging you
Just don't let me down
I'm begging you, begging you
I'm dreamin' of a dream that is never gonna end
Oh, you gotta see it, it'll treat you right (treat you right)

Just don't let me down
Heavenly

Overall Meaning

The song "Don't Let Me Down" by Milky Chance and Jack Johnson is a beautiful track that explores the need for assurance and support in a relationship. The lyrics convey a deep sense of vulnerability and a plea not to be let down as the singer is entrusting his heart to someone. The opening lines, "I've seen her eyes and yet, she got me shinin', Oh, she really did like no one ever did" suggest that the singer has met someone special who has brought light into his life. He is amazed by her and has never felt this way before. However, he is also conscious of the fact that relationships can be fragile and fears being let down.

The song continues to describe how the singer noticed the wings of the woman he loves and how they're always working, alluding to the idea of freedom and potential. The lyrics also touch upon themes of loss, brokenness, and the inevitability of endings. This is apparent in the lines, "There comes a day that I'm leavin'...Treat me right, heavenly" emphasizing the importance of cherishing meaningful relationships while they last.

The overall message of the song is to embrace vulnerability, to hold onto the good things we have, and to not let each other down. The song is beautifully crafted with poetic lyrics that evoke emotions of love and longing, bringing together the distinct styles of Milky Chance and Jack Johnson.
