Uncle
Mindless Self Indulgence Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Oh ho ho, oh ho ho
No teachers after school
Oh ho ho, oh ho ho
You're so dead after school
Oh, no, no
Why don't you beg? (Fatso!)
Run? (Fatso!)
Beg? (Fatso!)
Run? (Fatso!)

Why don't you say it?
Uncle
Why don't you say it?
Uncle
Why don't you say it?
Uncle
Com'on - say it!
Uncle

Why don't you say it you baby?
Run home to mother
Nobody likes you
I'll get you again tomorrow

Oh ho ho, oh ho ho
No teachers after school
Oh ho ho, oh ho ho
You're so dead after school
Oh, no, no
Why don't you beg? (Fatso!)
Run? (Fatso!)
Beg? (Fatso!)
Run? (Fatso!)

Why don't you say it?
Uncle
Why don't you say it?
Uncle
Why don't you say it?
Uncle
Just... say it!
Uncle

Why don't you say it you baby?
Run home to mother
Nobody likes you
I'll get you again tomorrow

And everybody's in tune to their own opinion
Everyone but me
I'm meant to suffer, baby
They've already said how they're going to torture me
Make my life a Hell
I will never get over, baby
Hey

Why don't you beg? (Fatso!)
Run? (Fatso!)
Beg? (Fatso!)
Run? (Fatso!)

Why don't you say it?
Uncle
Why don't you say it?
Uncle
Why don't you say it?
Uncle

Uncle

Why don't you say it you baby?
Run home to mother

Nobody likes you
I'll get you again tomorrow

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Mindless Self Indulgence's "Uncle" paint a picture of violent bullying and constant harassment. The song is addressing the bully with the repeated phrase "Why don't you say it? Uncle." The phrase could be referring to an authority figure like a teacher but taken in context, seems to be directed at the bully himself. The bullied child is being taunted after school with no one there to protect him. The lyrics are dark and angry, playing into the feelings of fear and helplessness.

The chorus is an invitation for the bully to say what he really means when he is calling the bullied child "fatso" and telling him to run or beg. The song speaks from the perspective of the child being bullied, offering no solution but to take the constant abuse day after day. The verses speak more to the idea that the child is being bullied because the bullies already decided he is someone who deserves it. It plays into the idea that bullies attack people to make themselves feel better, and that the bullied child is left alone to deal with the consequences of their actions.
