Dolorosa
Mineral Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Rejoice my soul how long will you wait? rejoice my soul how long will you fear?
I long to touch your face (may I?) the sun is falling down again Jesus I hope
You're coming back soon.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Mineral's song Dolorosa are imbued with a deep sense of yearning and hope. The first two lines, "Rejoice my soul how long will you wait? Rejoice my soul how long will you fear?" are a call to action, an urging for the soul to break free from its own self-imposed limitations and to find joy in the moment. The repetition of the word "rejoice" heightens the urgency of the sentiment.

The next line, "I long to touch your face (may I?)" is an expression of vulnerability and a yearning for connection. The singer is asking for permission to touch another's face, which symbolizes intimacy and closeness. The following line, "The sun is falling down again," is a reminder of the fleeting nature of life and the passing of time. The final line, "Jesus I hope you're coming back soon," is a plea for salvation and redemption, a hope for a brighter future.

@Alex Monro Yes I also saw similar words from Chris.
I think the great part of it is showing them grow and becoming more mature.
Chris might not be an Athiest now, but he seems to at least have the confidence that their music does not require a linkage with God/religion to be appreciated.

In fact, I think when we shake of the view that there were (possible) references to God, a lot of Mineral's songs actually get better.
I always like listening to Parking Lot right after Take a Picture Now, with an idea of Spinozist philosophy in my head. The word "Rejoice" appears a lot in their songs, and I think it has very good reasons.
