After ten plus years of periodic collaboration on poetry, art and music projects, Adam Stolorow (vocals, keyboards) and Baxter Holland (bass) arrived in Brooklyn by way of late 90โs Providence and the requisite diet of utopian thinking and freak flag waving. What started in Chicago as an experimental ripple of drums, cheap keyboards and onstage loops between Stolorow and drummer Matthew Berland in 2004 became a focused vibrational wave by the time it reached the coast. Increasingly, the Miracles sound threatens to burst living through the brick and asphalt of the metropolis.
With the addition of Chicago transplant Gabriel Fowler on drums in 2006, the re-formed trio went almost immediately into New Yorkโs legendary and now defunct Funcity studio to record โPioneersโ with producer Wharton Tiers (Sonic Youth, Pussy Galore, Unrest), which the band self-released as a limited edition silkscreened 12โ in 2007. The Funcity session was followed by visits to Brooklynโs Civil Defense studio, where the band recorded Colony Collapse (Creative Capitalism) with Jeremy Scott in 2007 and 2008. Fowler left the band in 2008 to pursue other projects and Amanda Huron (Vertebrates, DC) rotated into the mix, writing, touring and recording the Ovum EP (Creative Capitalism 2010). Drummer Chris Carson joined the band in late 2009.
Miracles work in skyscrapers but worship like beasts.
Got a Job
Miracles Lyrics

I was low, I just couldn't get hired
So I sat in a grocery store
Help is light and I need some more
(I got a job)
Sha na na na, sha na na na na
(I got a job)
(I got a job)
Sha na na na, sha na na na na
(I got a job)
Sha na na na, sha na na na na
Well, I fin'lly fin'lly fin'lly fin'lly fin'lly (got a job)
Sha na na na, sha na na na na
You've been houndin' me to get a job
Well I finally did and my boss is a slob
He's on my back really all day long
It seems like everything I do is wrong
Well, I fin'lly fin'lly fin'lly fin'lly fin'lly (got a job)
Sha na na na, sha na na na na
(He says to me)
Get the boxes, take 'em to the basement
Do the job right or I'll get a replacement
Get the mop and clean the dirty floors
And when you're finished wipe the windows and the doors
I fin'lly fin'lly fin'lly fin'lly fin'lly (got a job)
Sha na na na, sha na na na na
Well, this man's about to drive me stone insane
One of these days I'm gonna have a fit
and though the boss keeps a-runnin' through my brain
I'll never (never) (never) (never) (never never quit my brand new job)
Workin' all day and workin' all night and workin' all day
(He says to me)
Get the boxes, take 'em to the basement
Do the job right or I'll get a replacement
Get the mop and clean the dirty floors
And when you're finished wipe the windows and the doors
I fin'lly fin'lly fin'lly fin'lly fin'lly (got a job)
Sha na na na, sha na na na na
Well, this man's about to drive me stone insane
One of these days I'm gonna have a fit
And though the boss keeps a-runnin' through my brain
I'll never (never) (never) (never) (never never quit my brand new job)
Workin' all day and workin' all night and workin' all day
Workin' all night and workin' all day
The lyrics of The Miracles' song Got a Job describe the struggle of an individual in getting a job but ultimately succeeding in securing one. The first verse sets the tone by describing the hardships faced by the singer in his job search; he walked all day but still couldn't get hired. And so, he sits in a grocery store hoping to find some help. The chorus, with its repeated lines, emphasizes the elation he feels upon finally securing a job.
The second verse talks about the singer's boss, who is described as a slob and a micromanager. The song conveys a sense of frustration as the boss seems to be always on his back, and everything he does seems to be wrong. However, this does not indicate any intention to quit the job, and the singer asserts that he will never give up his new job despite the challenges he faces.
The song is a reflection of the challenges faced by many individuals in securing employment, especially in a competitive job market. It highlights the emotions of elation and frustration felt when finally finding a job, and how the boss's behavior can affect one's happiness and job satisfaction.

Smokey wrote this song, but Berry Gordy, Jr., somehow got solo writing credit. Gordy was managing the group at the time, which had been called the Matadors, but right after they recorded this song they changed their name to The Miracles. The song came out on Smokey's 18th birthday back in Feb. 1958.

That doesn't surprise me in the least.Managers and record label owners could be ganefs.Thats a common Yiddish word for "thief".Think of Morris Levy.Alot of bandleaders during the Big Band Era did the same thing as did music publishers like Irving Mills, who cut himself in on many Duke Ellington tunes.

Barry Gordy Jr should have been ashamed of himself. But at least Smokey prevailed and became successful. They are still buds today.
