It all began as a bunch of 3 to 6 year oldβs playing βrockstarsβ in in front of their parents with tennis racquets and pounding on mums cushions with drumsticks, pretending to be The Offspring, the Chili peppers, U2, Bon Jovi, Audioslave, blink, Green Day or Matchbox 20. At the age of eight, Todd got his first guitar and learned his first proper chords from a guy named John who was a friend of his father. A year later, Kevin got his first electric drum kit and they both started taking proper music lessons privately, as well as at school. Their first performances were at their primary school where they made mess of Smoke On The Water, You Really Got Me, You Give Love A Bad Name, Sunshine Of Your Love and a few other songs that are too embarrassing to mention.
It wasnβt long before Blake got his first left-handed acoustic guitar and Koby started leaning keyboard. Mum asked Kevin βWhat kind of music do you play?β Kevin was 3 years and in his baby talk, he answered, βMixed Up Everythingβ and the band name was stuck.
As time progressed and their confidence grew, Mixed Up Everything took their talent and music to the streets, busking in plenty of outdoor venues across Melbourne and they became a regular fixture in Melbourneβs Bourke Street Mall. They also took a trip across Europe literally singing for their supper and began playing in clubs and pubs. They never failed to draw huge crowds wherever they performed.
Mixed Up Everything began to upload their covers on their YouTube channel to showcase their talent and versatility, covering almost to perfection by Metallica, Nirvana, 3 Doors Down, Stone Temple Pilots, Pearl Jam, Rage Against The Machine, Scorpions, Bush, Alice In Chains, blink-182, and, of course, The Offspring.
The first proper βrecognitionβ came in 2012 from their favourites, namely The Offspring, who shared a cover of the boysβ The Future Is Now on their Twitter and Facebook page. As you might imagine, social media was βcoveredβ in shares and comments about these young βwhipper snappersβ doing a fine job of an Offspring song. In that same year, Kevin entered a drumming competition that No Doubt put out to their fan base, to cover the drum part of their song Push and Shove. The winner was to be awarded with the Drum Kit signed by the band. Kevin gave it his best shot, but he came runner up in a tight contest, which according to No Doubtβs drummer Adrian Young ββ¦ was close it was a toss of a coin.β Kevin didnβt get that drum kit, but he got a snare skin signed by the entire band, which still has pride of place on the wall above his drum kit!
Their amazing efforts never went unnoticed. Theyβve since won high appraisals from no bigger names than Foo Fighters, Metallica, The Offspring, Scorpions, Stone Temple Pilots, Velvet Revolver, Tea Party, Korn and plenty of radio stations, newspapers and websites across Australia and indeed the world. More recently their social media accounts have βexplodedβ as several of their cover videos have gone viral. People from all over the world are simply sharing their videos because they appreciate their talent, strong work ethic and obvious love for real music and real instruments.
Mixed Up Everything, however, refuse to be known as just a bunch of talented kids who cover their favourite musiciansβ songs. They are dreaming big and want to be known as an original rock group which sells out arenas and headlines big festivals.
Taste
Mixed Up Everything Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Raindrops freezing before they hit the fields
And I slip and slide as I make my way to my wishful place
A place by your side where the scent is a taste, a taste
A taste, a taste
A taste, a taste
All I want for you is to stay
I'm missing you from a distance overseas
The way it's going, I think if you were more than a dream
And I find my mind being led astray to my wishful place
A place by your side where the scent is a taste, a taste
A taste, a taste
A taste, a taste
Yeah, so disappear in your way
All I want for you is to stay
Yeah, so disappear in your way
All I want for you is to stay
The lyrics to Mixed Up Everything's song Taste describe the desire to be close to someone who is physically distant. The singer is separated from the person they long for by hills and oceans, but they still catch a glimpse of them and imagine being by their side. The repeated phrase "a place by your side where the scent is a taste" suggests that the singer is so invested in this person that simply the idea of their scent is enough to give them a physical sensation. This feeling is amplified by the chorus, which underscores the singer's wish for the person to stay.
In the second verse, the singer's longing intensifies. They imagine the person they miss as more than just a dream, indicating that their feelings for this person are deep and meaningful. However, they also acknowledge that their mind can be easily led astray by these intense emotions. The chorus repeats, emphasizing the singer's desire for the person to remain in their life.
Overall, the lyrics to Taste are about the pain and intensity of separation from someone you deeply care for. The sensory details, such as the scent of the person, make their absence feel even more acute. Despite this, the singer's desire for the person to remain in their life is strong and unwavering.
