Pearls
Mo Lowda the Humble Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I Can See You Down The River Standing On The Shoreline Dipping Your Toes
And I Know That You Love This Place
But You Know That You Won't Stay
Got A Ticket For A Plane Ride In The Morn'

You Won't Call Me Anymore
But I Could Never Blame You For Living Your Life On The Other Side Of The World
And I Tried To Save Your Bracelet With The White Pearls As If I Could Save You Too

When Our Shadows Converge And Our Opinions Conflict
I Choke On My Words I Hesitate
But When My Ego Gets Curbed, It's Been You At The Reins
Wearing Boots And A Sundress While You're Guiding Me Back To Earth Again

But Then, You Won't Call Me Anymore
But I Could Never Blame You For Living Your Life On The Other Side Of The World
And I Tried To Save Your Bracelet With The White Pearls As If I Could Save You Too

So Let Some Light In The Room
Lay By My Side
Let Me Soak In Your Presence As You Soak In Mine

Cause You'll Be Gone Again Ten Thousand Miles
Ten Thousand Miles

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Mo Lowda & the Humble's song "Pearls" tells the story of being in love with someone who is leaving for a faraway place. The singer of the song is watching as the love of their life stands by the river's edge, dipping their toes in the water. The singer acknowledges that this place means a lot to their love, but they also know that the desire to leave and explore new places is too strong to resist. The love of their life has a plane ticket for a journey that'll take them away from the singer in the morning.

The second verse talks about how the singer and the love of their life have had differences and disagreements. When this happened, the singer tended to hesitate and choke on their words. However, whenever the love of their life stepped in to offer guidance and reel them back in, they were able to find their footing again. But despite the deep connection they share, the love of their life is bound for the other side of the world, and the singer has accepted that they'll be gone for a long time.

The chorus talks about the desperation the singer feels about trying to keep something to hold onto from their love. The singer tries to save their love's bracelet with white pearls, but they know it's futile. The ending of the song repeats the idea that their love is gone now, but they still long for a moment's respite, to lay with their love and soak in their presence, knowing that they'll be gone again in ten thousand miles.
