2. A door is being closed with a bang, the melodies of child songs still ring through your head and the noise of a hangover and a broken heart are overwhelming. But outside the sun is shining and birds are singing andnew chances are awaiting; these contradictions set the premise for Moana's songs.
Moana is the Rotterdam-based band providing the musical backdrop for singer Johanneke Kranendonk's poetic songs. With influences like Jeff Buckley, PJ Harvey and Tom Waits, her songs are of a dark mood with a light edge.
With members of the band Woost, and the addition of a keyboard player, Moana began working on its debut album in January 2008. After two succesful recording sessions in a studio in Gent, Belgium, the last part of the album will be finished this summer in Holland. Their debut album will be released in November 2008, and presented in Lantaren/Venster in Rotterdam.
Live Moana is a band not to be missed. With an incredible energy the band plays the typical songs with a passion that is rare for bands generally backing up singer/songwriters.

He ahi puia koropupu
E whakapau nei i taku ate e
Whakawai pau nei i au e
He rito ipu ake i te po
Ko wai ka kite i ona puawai
This love that eats away at me as a fever
That is consuming my very soul
That is devouring me
Like a tender shoot lost to darkness
Who will see it blossom and bloom?
The lyrics of the song "Te Po" from the movie "Moana" describe the character's intense love, which is causing her immense pain, like a fever eating away at her. The metaphor of fire, depicted as a boiling pool, is used to describe the burning emotion inside her heart, devouring her very soul. Her love is akin to a tender shoot lost in the dark, trying to bloom, but nobody is there to witness it.
The lyrics of "Te Po" beautifully capture the intense and complex nature of love – something that can both uplift and torment us. The darkness of the night and the struggling flower serve as striking visuals to help depict the imagery of the song. One can sense the passion and pain in the character's voice as she sings these lines, bringing the lyrics to life with her powerful vocals.
