The group was formed in late 1966 in San Francisco. Frontman and rhythm guitarist Alexander "Skip" Spence (the original drummer for the Jefferson Airplane), lead guitarist Jerry Miller and drummer Don Stevenson (both formerly of the Frantics), rhythm guitarist (and son of actress Loretta Young) Peter Lewis (of the Cornells), and bassist Bob Mosley all wrote songs for their debut album Moby Grape (1967). In a marketing stunt, Columbia Records immediately released five singles at once, and the band was perceived as being over-hyped. Nonetheless, the record was critically acclaimed, and fairly successful commercially, with The Move covering its sardonic ode to hippiedom, "Hey Grandma". Spence's "Omaha" reached the lower rungs of the American singles charts in 1967, and Miller-Stevenson's "8:05" became a country rock standard (covered by The Grateful Dead, Robert Plant, Guy Burlage, and others). Moby Grape has today achieved the status of a highly respected rock album.
In addition to the marketing backlash, band members found themselves in legal trouble for charges (later dropped) of consorting with underage females, and the band's relationship with their manager rapidly deteriorated. The second album, Wow, was a critical and commercial failure. During its recording, Spence came to the studio with an axe, intending to kill Stevenson; he was committed, and after being released from Bellevue Hospital traveled to Nashville to record his only solo album, Oar. The band released three more albums: Moby Grape '69, Truly Fine Citizen, and 20 Granite Creek. In 1972 bob mosley released his only solo album, after which he left the group. The remainder soldiered on for two decades, recording and performing to a small but devoted audience.
Moby Grape was an example of a talented band who, through a combination of mismanagement and inexperience, never fully realized their potential. Along with the Flamin' Groovies, they were somewhat of an anomaly in the San Francisco rock scene; their concision and their strong roots in country music and early rock and roll seemed to work against them. In addition, perhaps because they were so versatile, their image was somewhat nebulous; as writer Robert Christgau put it, "All they really lacked was a boss, and what could be more American than that?"
Someday
Moby Grape Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Tomorrow will come.
Though I'm not afraid of today,
That's for sure.
You laughed at me,
For the last time.
You've got to understand,
It just wasn't in the plan.
To me, your life has ended,
When I said goodbye to you.
Ah ha ha, you laughed at me,
For the last time.
Now there's nothing left,
Tired of playing games.
Your mind is lost,
In a world that wasn't made for you,
Though I feel the same way, too
I still got things to do.
The song Someday by Moby Grape is about moving on from a broken relationship and finding hope for the future. The first verse implies that the singer is not afraid of the present day but is looking forward to what tomorrow may bring. The second verse is addressed to a former lover who had laughed at the singer for the last time. The singer believes that the end of the relationship spelled the end of the former lover's life, and that there was no hope for reconciliation between them. The rest of the song is about the singer's determination to move on with his life despite the pain of the past.
Overall, the song Someday is a hopeful song about finding strength to carry on in the face of adversity. The song's message is that life goes on, and that we must be strong enough to face our challenges head on. The song's upbeat tempo and cheerful guitar riffs help to convey a sense of optimism, despite the fact that the lyrics are about a difficult period in the singer's life. The song is a testament to the fact that even in the darkest of times, there is always hope for a better tomorrow.

Someday,
One day in the future
Tomorrow will come.
The future will inevitably arrive
Though I'm not afraid of today,
I do not fear the present moment
That's for sure.
It is a fact
You laughed at me,
You ridiculed me
For the last time.
I will not allow it to happen again
You've got to understand,
You need to comprehend
It just wasn't in the plan.
Your actions were not part of the intended course of events
To me, your life has ended,
I consider our relationship to be over
When I said goodbye to you.
When I bid you farewell
Ah ha ha, you laughed at me,
You mocked me again
For the last time.
It will be the final instance of this behavior
Now there's nothing left,
Our situation is hopeless
Tired of playing games.
I am exhausted from the constant manipulation and deceit
Your mind is lost,
You are no longer in control of your thoughts
In a world that wasn't made for you,
This society does not cater to your needs
Though I feel the same way, too
I share similar sentiments
I still got things to do.
I have other priorities to attend to

Algún día,
Someday,
Mañana vendrá.
Tomorrow will come.
Aunque no tengo miedo de hoy,
Though I'm not afraid of today,
Eso es seguro.
That's for sure.
Te reíste de mí
You laughed at me,
Por última vez.
For the last time.
Tienes que entender,
You've got to understand,
Simplemente no estaba en el plan.
It just wasn't in the plan.
Para mí tu vida ha terminado,
To me, your life has ended,
Cuando te dije adiós.
When I said goodbye to you.
Ah, ja, ja, te reíste de mí.
Ah ha ha, you laughed at me,
Por última vez.
For the last time.
Ahora no queda nada,
Now there's nothing left,
Cansado de jugar.
Tired of playing games.
Tu mente está perdida,
Your mind is lost,
En un mundo que no fue hecho para ti,
In a world that wasn't made for you,
Aunque yo también siento lo mismo
Though I feel the same way, too
Todavía tengo cosas que hacer.
I still got things to do.

There are two kinds of people in the world; those who appreciate what a brilliant album Moby Grape’s first LP was, and those poor sad souls who never heard it.
@artisticbloodflow
Right?! No one I know has ever even heard of Moby Grape :,( Hopefully I listen to them enough that I am instilling it deeply in the collective unconscious for the rest of us newer generations

You definitely got that right! I met Bob, Skippy, Peter, Jerry and Don at their start I knew in my heart they would be great. Made me sick the turmoils they endured just to be who they were.....l Legendary musicians, never to be forgotten!

Of all the great rock groups that shone in that era, two of the most obscure of them have left the deepest, most enduring impression on me: Moby Grape and Love.
