Eres Tu
Mocedades Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Yo te miré, tú me miraste
Quise decirte no te marches
Dos en la carretera pensando igual
Poder rompernos en un abrazo

Y tú ¿quién eres tú?
Nunca te he conocido
Y yo ¿quién seré yo?
Si tú te has ido

Nunca te he conocido
Y yo ¿quién seré yo?
Si tú te has ido

Adiós, quiero decir
Hasta la vista
Si algún día
Nos une el viento

Y tú ¿quién eres tú?
Nunca te he conocido
Y yo ¿quién seré yo?
Si tú te has ido

Adiós, quiero decir
Hasta la vista

Si algún día
Nos une el viento

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Mocedades's song Eres Tú describe a sense of longing and confusion that arises after a relationship has ended. The verses talk about two people who used to travel together, but are now going their separate ways. The singer ponders about how things used to be in the past, and how far apart they are now. The lines “Tú vas al sol, yo a la deriva/Pensar que ayer aún me querías” suggest a feeling of loss and regret that comes after realizing that the person they once cared for has moved on. The chorus, “Y tú ¿quién eres tú?/Nunca te he conocido/Y yo ¿quién seré yo?/Si tú te has ido”, highlights how, after a break-up, the person who once knew every aspect of their partner’s life now feels like a stranger to them. The song ends with a sense of resignation, but also with a hint that, maybe, they will meet again someday – “Si algún día/Nos une el viento”.

Overall, Eres Tú is a poignant portrayal of the emotions one goes through after a relationship ends. The image of two people travelling only a few meters apart from each other, yet feeling distant, captures the feeling of being close yet so far. The lyrics also highlight how a break-up can make one question their own identity – “Y yo ¿quién seré yo?” – and how difficult it can be to let go of the past.

Like a promise, you are, you are...
like a summer morning.
Like a smile, you are, you are [to me]
That's how, that's how, you are [that's how I perceive you]

You are like my hope, you are, you are... [to me]
like a fresh rain in my hands.
Like a strong breeze, you are, you are [to me]
That's how, that's how, you are [that's how I perceive you]

You are the water of my fountain
You are the warmth in my home
You are
You are something like, ohhhh
Like the fire in my fireplace (something like the fire from my fireplace)
You are..,
(You are something like, ohhhh)
The wheat in my bread
My love, you are something like that

Like my poem, you are, you are [to me]
Like a guitar in the night,
you are all my horizon, you are [to me]
That's how, that's how, you are [that's how I perceive you]

You are the source of my water
You are the warmth in my home
You are (You are something like, ohhhh)
Like the fire in my fireplace (something like the fire from my fireplace)
You are (You are something like, ohhhh)
The wheat of my bread (my love, you are something like that ).

You are...

I can't believe I found this song on YouTube to this day of 2024. I love it, and I have been loving it since 1992, when my teacher of Spanish language played that song as a quiz. I was in Grade 9. What a lovely song.

This song knocked me out. I was 8 years old when I first heard it. It still has such an impact. I am glad it still receives recognition.
