King of Kings
Models Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When I confess I need you, will you take me back?
I can't remember color, my sun rise is pitch black
Without you there's no steel in me
No stone
No strength left in my bones
But with you here

I would be king
I would be champion
I'd be the warrior god of the pantheon
With my hands I would tear the stars
From the heavens above me...
If you loved me

I think I hear my hammer callin me
I'm workin just to prove I'm worthy of
The mantle befallen me
I can't speak the lightning now
I'm cut off from the storm

Cast an eye upon your child
And see what I've become

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Models’ song King of Kings talks about a person’s dependence on the person they love. The singer confesses their need for their lover, and wonders if the lover will take them back. They describe their world as colorless and bleak, with no strength left in their bones. However, when the lover is there, they feel invincible, like a king or a warrior god. They believe they can even tear the stars from the heavens with their bare hands if the lover loved them.

The lyrics also talk about the singer’s desire to prove themselves worthy of their mantle. They hear their hammer calling them, working hard to prove that they are worthy of their position. However, they cut off from the lightning and the storm, unable to speak its language anymore. They ask their lover to see what they have become, indicating that their love has transformed them into someone worthy of admiration.

The song is a powerful representation of the transformative power of love. It brings out the best in people, inspiring them to be their most powerful selves. The lyrics are also filled with metaphors such as "tearing the stars from the heavens," "warrior god of the pantheon," and "cast an eye upon your child," which add depth and meaning to the song.

Oh Lord of all creation
Herald missiles hide and seek
Bloodshed and satellite beams
I pray my soul to keep
King of Kings
Deliver us
Send us salvation
Speed it to us
Where are the fish?
Where are the loaves of bread?
Father, call it salvation
When babies fall
To the demon hunger
I've more than I can eat
And so has most of the western world

One of the best of a brilliant Sean Kelly catalogue.

oh the memories this song was on the charts just as I was leaving school for good and making my own way in the world , if only we could go back to kinder times.

@MultiStumac

I'm with you there.

@aus80srockradio94

It hardly charted actually, but I totally agree - it's a great song & good memories for you as well! I was finishing up primary school (year 6) in December 1985 when this was released - however didn't discover it or the album until mid 1986.

Someone uploaded the entire Models Catalogue 10 years ago (in high quality) and bit by bit each video was picked off and deleted. Thank you for uploading this missing video albeit with poor quality audio.

@Scotty-P

I saw this on Rage in the wee hours last night for; I think, the first time. It's surreally brilliant.
