Bandy The Rodeo Clown
Moe Bandy & Joe Stampley Lyrics

Now who keeps a pint hid out behind chute number one
Who was riding high till a pretty girl rode him to the ground
Any kid knows where to find me, I'm Bandy the rodeo clown
In the riding and the roping I was closing in on number one
Now in dreams at night I ride on that silver saddle I never won
Since she left me the whiskey takes me to the rodeo grounds
I could ride em all the bulls and the broncs knew I was boss
But the ride that woman took me on broke a whole lot more than this old cowboy's bones
While the tears on my makeup melts my painted smile into a frown
The crowd thinks I'm a dandy, I'm Bandy the rodeo clown
I could ride em all the bulls and the broncs knew I was boss
But the ride that woman took me on broke a whole lot more than this old cowboy's bones
While the tears on my makeup melts my painted smile into a frown
The crowd thinks I'm a dandy, I'm Bandy the rodeo clown
Moe Bandy's song Bandy The Rodeo Clown, released in 1975, tells the story of a former successful bull-rider who has become a clown in the rodeo to cope with his heartbreak. The song highlights a man who was once fearless, strong and powerful, but who was brought to his knees by the love of a woman. He keeps a pint of whiskey hidden behind chute number one and uses it to numb the pain of heartbreak and disappointment. He lost everything, his dream of winning the rodeo, his rodeo buddies, and the love of the woman who rode him to the ground.
The title of the song "Bandy The Rodeo Clown" is as significant as the lyrics. Moe Bandy is talking about someone who has devoted his life to the rodeo, but now finds himself on the outside looking in. He is no longer the hero bull-rider, but a clown who has a different role to play. He has to pretend to be happy all the time, not just for the crowd, but to escape the pain and shame that he feels.
Overall, the lyrics of Bandy The Rodeo Clown depict a man who has lost everything, including his self-respect. The pain of heartbreak has overwhelmed him and he can only find solace in the whiskey and his painted on smile. It is a melancholic story of an individual's loss of identity, purpose and hope.

I was the odd ball in high school. While everyone else was listening to heavy metal like twisted sister and motley crue I was listening to moe bandy, joe stampley, hank williams, and waylon and willie. They just don't make country music like this anymore. Thank God for sirius xm and willies roadhouse station on satellite radio. Where you can still hear great real country music like this which is one of my all time favorites.

Where I live we have our own country station that just plays real country music not the so called country today
@LifeRips
I wish country music was this simple again. I don’t see how people these guys stray so far from the greatest country legends. It was real. But also just plain simple.
@bencumby9132
Totally real music. Takes you into the emotional heart of the story. Not the pop/rap/noise that's called "country" today.
