Burch's voice takes cues from old timers like Dusty Springfield and Patsy Cline to create throaty mountains and valleys of sound. It's retro country and soul in the best way. Growing up in Los Angeles with a writer/producer father and a casting director mother, Burch's childhood was filled with old Hollywood musicals and the sounds of Patsy Cline, Billie Holiday and Nina Simone. After finding her voice in adolescence, Burch packed up for the University of North Carolina in Asheville to study Jazz Vocal Performance.

Hard for me to let go, see the light
But I want to love you right, not like the last guy
Treat you good, treat you kind
Be there for you day and night
Loving's not easy I want to go back to the beginning
And change the way I said it before
I want you more than I want control
You know I can't stand still, always moving
You know I can't make decisions, you're always choosing
But I want to love you right, not like the last guy
Treat you good, treat you kind
Be there for you day and night
Loving's not easy I want to go back to the beginning
And change the way I said it before
All those times I didn't mean it, I can't believe I tricked myself
I want you more than I want control
Sit back a minute I wanna be sure of it baby, uh huh
Is this commitment? That'd be so mature of us baby, uh huh
Back to somebody, I know it well
Reaching for something, I know it well
Loving's not easy I want to go back to the beginning
And change the way I said it before
All those times I didn't mean it, I can't believe I tricked myself
I want you more than I want control
I want you more, more...
Molly Burch’s song Control is about the singer’s struggle with giving up control and allowing herself to love freely. She admits that she loves control and finds it hard to let go, but she wants to love her partner in the right way and treat them well. She also speaks about how loving is not easy and how she wishes she could go back to the beginning and change the way she expressed her love in the past.
The chorus of the song emphasizes her desire to let go of control and to love her partner more than she wants control. The second verse also highlights her struggles with making decisions and how her partner is always the one making the choices. The bridge is a moment of contemplation where she questions if what she is feeling is true commitment.
The overall message of the song is about the vulnerability that comes with love and the struggle to let go of control. It’s about learning to love without holding back and allowing oneself to be vulnerable.

I think she is unique to a scene that is overdone with knockoffs. "Back In Time" is one of the most gut-felt songs I have heard in a long time.

I've lived in Austin for quite a while now and have had the biggest crush on her and her music for years now. Was amazing how she and Black Angels opened up for the Bernie Sanders rally in Austin in 2019 with killer sets.
For the newcomers, don't miss her older song "To The Boys". In a sane world it would have been a top 40 hit:
