On March 7, 2017, Mom Jeans released a split EP with the Fresno-based band Graduating Life. It was during this period that Bart Thompson of Graduating Life and Meet Me in Montauk fame would become a guitarist for the band.
On October 6, 2017, Counter Intuitive Records released a split EP titled NOW That's What I Call Music Vol. 420, featuring music from Mom Jeans as well as the bands Pictures of Vernon and Prince Daddy & The Hyena.[1][2]
Also in October 2017, the band announced they had signed with SideOneDummy Records, and had plans to release their second album through the label in 2018. However, in a reddit post, Eric Butler confirmed that they would no longer be working with the label and instead continue to work with Counter Intuitive Records to release their second album.
The band's second full-length album, titled Puppy Love, was released on July 3, 2018 with Counter Intuitive Records, as well as a limited independent label run of the record and a select variant being put out by UK based label Big Scary Monsters.
In early 2019 the band began recording demos for a new LP as well as naming the album, which will be titled Sweet Tooth., following the departure of Gabriel Paganin. In fall of 2019 it was announced the band would be touring with Hobo Johnson, featuring guest bassist Billy Bouzos (owner of the Oakland-based indie label Slang Church) filling in for Sam Kless.

Too bad!
You know, they want to know if you guys can maybe try tuning up again. Or...
No!
...just play on the beat and just do it right?
No! let's stop fooling around
and turn this band into a lean, mean, mom-jeans revenge machine! Yeah! Mom jeans!
it's never going away
'cause I'm stuck on you like the smell of cigarettes on your flower dress
I want you under my fingernails
I want you in my sleep and in my dreams
I wake up spooning my pillow
sweaty hands but please don't tell your friends
now I'm addicted to cigarettes
at first I didn't let myself inhale
but smoke got through and so did you
and now every burn hole smells like home
and I know it's killing me but that still won't stop me
'cause now we smell the same but you still kill me faster
I don't mind that you lie sometimes
because I lie too
guess I'm just like you
I don't mind that you lie sometimes
because I lie too
guess I'm just like you
I don't mind that you lie sometimes
because I lie too
guess I'm just like you
I don't mind that you lie sometimes
because I lie too
guess I'm just like you
I don't mind that you lie sometimes
because I lie too
guess I'm just like you
The lyrics to "Edward 40hands" by Mom Jeans explore the theme of addiction and the consequences that come with it. The opening lines of the song set the scene in a live music setting where someone is complaining about the band's performance. However, the band members refuse to conform to the expectations of society and instead turn their band into a "lean, mean, mom-jeans revenge machine." This rejection of norms sets the tone for the rest of the song, where the singer grapples with their addiction to cigarettes and their desire for their partner.
The lyrics about being "stuck on you like the smell of cigarettes on your flower dress" and wanting their partner "under my fingernails" and "in my sleep and in my dreams" paint a picture of an all-consuming infatuation. The singer is so addicted to their partner that they have become addicted to cigarettes as well, even though they didn't allow themselves to inhale at first. The line "and now every burn hole smells like home" shows how the singer has associated the smell of cigarettes with their partner and home. However, they are also aware that the addiction is killing them but cannot stop themselves from indulging in it anyway.
The repeated lines "I don't mind that you lie sometimes because I lie too, guess I'm just like you" highlight the idea that the singer and their partner share similar flaws and are perhaps not as different as they may seem. This acceptance of their partner's imperfections and lying may also be a result of their addiction, as they are willing to overlook negative behaviors in order to continue their relationship.
Overall, "Edward 40hands" is a complex exploration of addiction and the impact it can have on relationships, as well as a rejection of societal norms and expectations.

what do you want me to say
Tell me what you want me to say
it's never going away
These feelings I have for you will never disappear
'cause I'm stuck on you like the smell of cigarettes on your flower dress
I am infatuated with you and I can't shake this feeling, just like the smell of cigarettes that never seems to leave your dress
I want you under my fingernails
All I can think of is having you close to me and in my grasp
I want you in my sleep and in my dreams
I want to be close to you even in my subconscious
I wake up spooning my pillow
I wake up holding my pillow tightly, pretending it's you
sweaty hands but please don't tell your friends
I get nervous around you and my palms get sweaty, but please don't tell anyone
now I'm addicted to cigarettes
Just like I'm addicted to you, I'm now addicted to cigarettes
at first I didn't let myself inhale
I resisted the temptation to inhale the smoke, just like I tried to resist my feelings for you
but smoke got through and so did you
Eventually, the smoke and my feelings for you got through and took over
and now every burn hole smells like home
Every damaged and burnt object reminds me of you, and somehow feels comforting
and I know it's killing me but that still won't stop me
I am aware that both cigarettes and my feelings for you are self-destructive, but I can't help but indulge
'cause now we smell the same but you still kill me faster
We have a similar scent, but you have a stronger and more dangerous impact on me
I don't mind that you lie sometimes
I accept that you are not completely truthful with me at times
because I lie too
I also have a habit of lying
guess I'm just like you
I suppose we're more similar than I thought
I don't mind that you lie sometimes
I accept that you are not completely truthful with me at times
because I lie too
I also have a habit of lying
guess I'm just like you
Maybe we both have flaws and imperfections that make us similar
I don't mind that you lie sometimes
I accept that you are not completely truthful with me at times
because I lie too
I also have a habit of lying
guess I'm just like you
Maybe lying is just a part of who we are, and that's okay
