Some Other Time
Monheit Jane Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Where has the time all gone to
Haven't done half the things we want to
Oh well, we'll catch up some other time
Some other time

This day was just a token
Too many words are still unspoken
Oh well, we'll catch up some other time

Just when the fun is starting
Comes the time for parting
But let's be glad for what we've had
And what's to come

There's so much more embracing
Still to be done but time is racing
Oh well, we'll catch up some other time

Just when the fun is starting
Comes the time for parting
But let's be glad for what we've had
And what's to come

There's so much more embracing
Still to be done but time is racing
Oh well, we'll catch up some other time

Some other time
Some other time

Some other time
Some other time

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Jane Monheit's "Some Other Time" tells a story of two people who did not have enough time to do the things they want and say the words they wanted to convey to each other. They were only left with the hope of meeting again in the future to carry on with unfinished business. The first verse already shows the regrettable feeling of not being able to accomplish all the things that they planned for. It reflects how fast-paced life can be and how it can sometimes leave us with some unfinished tasks. However, the vocalist expressed her optimism by saying that maybe they will catch up in some other time.

The second verse talks about the feeling of nostalgia and how this particular day was only a "token" to everything else that they hadn't done yet. There were many words left unsaid, but the vocalist still hopes to see the person again to finally say those words. The song expresses an appreciation of the moments they have spent together, despite the time constraints that they were dealt with. The last line of the verse also reinstates the hope of a future meet-up.

Overall, "Some Other Time" is a song that talks about the fleeting nature of time and the importance of cherishing every moment in our lives. It is a reminder that we should not take anything for granted because we never know what could happen in the future.

I stumbled on this video by way of listening to Bill Evans and Tony Bennett. I have viewed this and listened to it 1,000 times today. I am awestruck. One of the most romantic, sophisticated, stylish videos Ive ever seen. It is one of life's rare moments when you stumble on a gem as exquisite as this one. I know Im hyperventilating, but it is wonderful. Jane Monheit has another new fan.

I've seen Jane three times - once at the Algonquin Hotel and twice at The Blue Note. She has the sweetest voice out there today, and she really knows how to sing, which is by controling her breathing. She is a treasure to the music world. I hope she goes all the way to the top. Jane is the best.
