Words
Monkees (The) Lyrics

(It hurts so bad, 'cause when I see you, I start crying,
I've tried everything to stop, but there's no denying,
That falling in love with you, girl, is just like dying
Oh, don't walk away,
Oh, how can I make you stay?
Don't turn away,
Just spoken to help nobody but you,
Words with lies inside,
But, small enough to hide till your playing was through
Girl, don't you know we could work it out with talking?
You won't look around or slow down your walking,
I've given you everything with kiss to seal it,
You had to get your kicks out of trying to steal it
Now, I'm standing here,
Strange, strange voices in my ears,
I feel the tears,
But, all I can hear are those words that never were true, just spoken to help nobody but you
Words with lies inside,
But, small enough to hide till your playing was through, ah
Now, I'm standing here,
Strange, strange voices in my ears,
I feel the tears,
But, all I can hear are those words that never were true,
Just spoken to help nobody but you,
Words with lies inside,
But, small enough to hide till your playing was through
Words that never were true, just spoken to help nobody but you,
Words with lies inside,
But, small enough to hide till your playing was through
Words that never were true, just spoken to help nobody but you
The Monkees' song Words is a classic love ballad that speaks to the pain and confusion that can come with falling in love. The song starts with the singer expressing how much it hurts to see the person they love, but also acknowledging that they can't help the feeling of falling for them. The singer then tries to convince the person of their love and suggests that they can work things out through communication. However, the person does not reciprocate and instead chooses to deceive and manipulate the singer. The song ends with the singer feeling a sense of loss and confusion as they realize that the person they love never had true intentions from the start.
The lyrics of Words are laced with vulnerability, heartbreak, and betrayal. It speaks to the universal theme of unrequited love and the pain that comes with it. The song's melancholic melody and the Monkees' harmonious vocals make it a timeless classic that still resonates with audiences today.

@AHouseDivided1998
Mickey Dolenz has to be the most underrated Pop singer of the 1960’s.
@KevinWale
he's one of the greatest rock and roll voices ever. there is a thick rawness, but totally in tune all the time. underrated is so correct
@tvtitlechampion3238
Abso-freaking-lutely. He had a warm purr that was unmistakable and original. I'd like to tell him how appreciated he was, and continues to be.
@DPhasely
I'm not a big Monkees fan, but I would agree with Dolenz being unappreciated as a singer.
@gogoyubari366
What makes you believe he's underrated? Did you travel the globe taking a survey from every citizen of the world? Please explain.
@KevinWale
@Toyota Kawasaki it refers to culture in general Mr. Pedantic. Grow up.
@ladyjustice1474
The vocals of each member is severely underrated. All them have serious talent. They deserve better recognition for their work than what they received from the music industry. RIP Davey, Peter, and Mike.
@willzimjohn
They aren't the only ones singing on this record.
@nadinedurkin8266
