Well here is my story that I tell to you

I escaped to Havana for a getaway
I went to Havana to get away from my troubles

And that's when I saw her from across the room
It was then that I first laid eyes on her from a distance away

Like something from a movie or a storybook
She was so beautiful that I could hardly believe it, as though from a storybook or film

She had a short dress with curly hair and chocolate skin
She was dressed in a short dress with curly hair and beautiful dark skin

That's how it all began
That was the beginning of our love story

I remember when she came into my life
I remember vividly when she entered my life

And all at once-upon-a-time
It was in a single moment, like from a fairy tale

Love was in the air
There was an overwhelming feeling of love

Just like an ocean breeze
It was a love that was gentle, like a breeze from the sea

And we were dancing to the sweetest melodies
We were dancing together to the most beautiful music

I held her in my arms until she danced into the night
I held her tightly as we danced the night away

It happened all at once-upon-a-time
All of this occurred in a moment of great significance

Once upon a time
This was our fairy tale

The next day I was walking to the marketplace
The following day, I went for a walk to the market

I passed by the cathedral so I stopped to pray
I walked past a cathedral and decided to stop and pray

I imagined this journey without my friend
I thought about what it would have been like if I was alone on this journey

And just like an angel she appeared again
Then, like an angel appearing from above, she was there once more

But before I could ask her why she had gone
But before I could ask her anything, something else happened

The Padre started yelling that 'She's the one'
The priest suddenly started accusing her of something

And suddenly the Policia were everywhere with chaos in the air
And then the police appeared out of nowhere, creating chaos and confusion

I remember when she had to say goodbye
I remember the heartbreaking moment when she had to leave

I could not believe they said she was a thief
I found it hard to believe that they were accusing her of being a thief

And I stood there as they drove her away from me
I could only watch as they took her away from me

And what was I to do, now they've accused her of a crime
I didn't know what to do, since they were accusing her of a crime

It happened all at once-upon-a-time
This terrible event occurred in a single moment

I remember when I couldn't sleep that night
I recall vividly that I couldn't sleep at all that night

I had to find a way to bring her back to me
I knew I needed to find a way to get her back to me

So I made a plan of how to set her free
I came up with a plan to free her from their custody

And so tomorrow night, mi amore I will find
So the following night, my love, I will locate her

He disguised himself in sheets
He dressed himself up in something to make him inconspicuous

Waited for the guards to fall asleep
He waited for the guards to doze off

Snuck into the tower, took the keys
He quietly crept into the tower and removed the keys

And then I told the girl, stick close to me
Then, I instructed her to stay close to me

He was in a sword fight 'till the death
He engaged in a fight with swords until one of them won

Everyone that watched just held their breath
Everyone watching was on the edge of their seat

And then he ran
After winning the fight, he ran away

I ran
We both ran away together

Jumped
We had to jump over something to escape

I jumped
I also jumped over the obstacle

Climbed
We had to climb up something to continue our escape

Faster and faster and faster
Our escape gained speed as we kept running

Guards, stop him! Don't let him get away, Guards!
We were pursued by guards who were shouting for us to stop

I remember when she came back in my life
I remember with joy the moment when we were reunited

We made our getaway to another time and place
We escaped together to a new destination

We were riding while the tears rolled down her face
As we fled, she wept openly

She knows I can not stay so we'll say our goodbyes tonight
She understands that I can't stay with her and so we will have to say goodbye
