Overcome
Montell Fish Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Just looking over the same things
Is it in my head? God, I need Your help
'Cause I'm just not strong enough
Father, it's the same pain
It's the same things
Stumbling over and over again
Teach me to overcome
Let me start by saying
There's a lot of crazy stuff about
My life that I don't understand
Twenty with no money
College calling like it's Uncle Sam
But I know the Father working
All things for the betterment
To those who love Him
And that walk inside His ever
Perfect plan and perfect Man
But You're shaping me into a perfect man
Dirt and sin is what I'm made from
That's where it all began
So, here I am on my face, Lord
Father, I feel the sin
Pick me up, call my name out
And I answer again
I walk by faith, my eyes don't gotta see it
You told me I'd be a vessel and
I settle down and believe it
Told me that they would know You
This crazy Bible I'm reading
It tells me I have the power to
Sow a seed and then reap it
See, people come to Jesus
I need it, Father, I need it
This world around me is dying
The bright and steady conceded
We're not defeated, an evil force is arriving
Father, just keep us clean
I know the Day is arriving that You come back
That You will overcome
Teach me to overcome teach me to overcome
Listen, God, I don't care about no album
I don't care what people are saying
God, I just want to do what You want me to do
God, show me what You want me to do
Tell me how You want me to sound
God, I just want this to
Be beautiful for You, god
Oh, You are the Holy God
You are the only God I want to know
I just want my life to be beautiful
So, I hope You think this is beautiful
'Cause this- this album is my prayer to You
And if not one person in this world likes it
God
I just pray that You look down and You smile
And You say, "yeah my son, well done"
It's something that is beautiful
In the first verse of "Overcome" by Montell Fish, the singer expresses feelings of frustration and weariness as they face the same struggles and pains repeatedly. They question whether these challenges are all in their mind and acknowledge their need for divine assistance as they feel insufficiently strong to deal with the ongoing difficulties. The repetitive nature of the obstacles is highlighted as they stumble over the same things continuously, seeking a way to overcome them and break free from this cycle of hardship. This section sets the tone for the theme of seeking guidance and strength to triumph over life's challenges.
As the song progresses, Montell Fish reflects on the complexities and uncertainties of their life journey. Despite being young and lacking financial stability, they hold onto faith in a higher power guiding them towards a greater purpose. The struggle with sin and imperfections is highlighted as a part of their journey towards becoming a better individual, shaped by the experiences and trials they face. The lyrics speak to a deep sense of surrender and dependence on God, trusting in His plan and seeking transformation into a more perfect version of themselves through the challenges they encounter.
The artist acknowledges their desire to be shaped and molded by God into a vessel for His work, accepting their origins in sin and the need for redemption. The imagery of being on their face before God signifies humility and a willingness to be picked up and guided by divine intervention. The lyrics convey a sense of perseverance and unwavering faith, even when faced with doubts and uncertainties. There is a plea for clarity and direction in fulfilling God's will, with a strong desire to create something meaningful and beautiful as an offering to the divine.
In the final verse, Montell Fish expresses a heartfelt dedication to serving God through their music, prioritizing spiritual fulfillment over worldly success or recognition. The album is portrayed as a prayer and a labor of love, with the ultimate goal of pleasing and glorifying God above all else. The emphasis is on creating something that resonates with the divine, regardless of its reception by others. The singer's earnest plea for God's approval and blessing underscores their deep spiritual devotion and commitment to using their talents for a higher purpose. The closing sentiment of finding beauty and fulfillment in aligning one's life and creative expression with God's will brings the song full circle, emphasizing the journey of overcoming struggles and finding true meaning and purpose in divine connection.

Montell Fish,
My man...Iโve been a fan of yours since โAs We Walk into Foreverโ and your music helped me cope when I was stuck in porn, moral obligation, masturbation ect. Your music was the only thing to comfort me when I was going to an alternative school, when kicked out of my public school.
Long story short, by the grace of God, I got saved July 2016 and Iโve been called to the ministry. Your music will always have a place in my heart. I wasnโt a fan of contemporary Hillsong/Elevation type music, but your sound and give that God has given you, is therapeutic. I love that about you.
To even top that off, watching your vlogs now and watching you collab with ascedbyme, like I know God has stuff for you in store. Keep doing the Lordโs work. I canโt do these things on my own so I rely on him. You have been following Godโs calling for your life and it inspires others like me because itโs glorifying God. Keep glorifying Him.
Peace and love, brother in Christ.

P.S. Iโm not looking for a response or top comment, I just wanted to thank you and hope that you see this. I love you, brother ๐ฏ๐๐ฝ

this was a song dedicated to those still struggling with repeating sins in their life, and also a season in my life where I was unsure of my life and purpose with God. I was asking God to lead me out, show me what He wants me to do and help me to have faith to overcome my own flesh.

Man...your music blesses my soul๐๐ผ
You sing and write about things that most of us (at least in church) keep in our heads and to ourselves.
Jesus wants our whole heart. The good, the bad the ugly. Thank you for your honesty and sharing your gift in it. Holy Spirit is so present with you, always. ๐โค

Two things: 1. I got your sweater and it is SERIOUSLY COMFY. I did not expect such high quality for the lower price. Awesome thank you!. 2. My friend who is not a Christian and I went on a long car ride together and she was listening to your music and really enjoyed it musically and later she started asking questions more about God. I believe that music is a gateway to the soul in some ways that words don't always get to. Thank you for listening to the Lord as believers and unbelievers a like listen to the music that the Holy Spirt is producing through you. oxo
