Moodymann Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

She mad at me
She doesn't even want me anymore
It's because I'm Detroit
I just want to take her pants off
Stupid bitch
Won't even open the door
I gotta phone you, so call me!
Chase the ball!
You just arrived!
I don't care anymore
I don't like her
I don't know what she feels
She's mad at me because I'm a supporter
She's still mad at the nigger because I'm a Detroiter (Detroiter)

You are mad 'cause I'm here to support you? (No!)
Are you mad I'm a local Detroiter?(No!)
Would you rather go back home? (No!)
Would you rather go back home? (No!)
Would you rather do it alone? (No!)
Are you all ready to say goodnight, goodnight, goodnight?
Are you all ready to say goodnight, goodnight, goodnight?
Would you rather go to work and drink? (No!)
You got clothes on under your league (No!)
You really know you wanna stop having fun (No!)
You really know you wanna turn the lights on! (No!)
Are you all ready to say goodnight, goodnight, goodnight?
Are you all ready to say goodnight, goodnight, goodnight?

You hate it when the DJ play for advice (No!)
You hate it when the DJ play for advice (No!)
You made this... you cross (No!)
You like your fudgy cake without hot sauce (No!)
Are you all ready to say goodnight, goodnight, goodnight?
Are you all ready to say goodnight, goodnight, goodnight?
Are you all ready to say goodnight, goodnight, goodnight?
Are you all ready to say goodnight, goodnight, goodnight?

She's still mad at the nigger because I'm a Detroiter

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Moodymann's song "No" reflect his experiences as a black man living in Detroit. The song expresses Moodymann's frustration with a woman who is upset with him because he is from Detroit, referring to himself as a "Detroiter" and using the N-word. He feels that the woman is being unreasonable and ignorant by judging him based on his home city and race. Moodymann's use of derogatory language throughout the song underscores the systemic racism and prejudices that he has likely faced as a black man in America.

The refrain "Are you all ready to say goodnight, goodnight, goodnight?" is repeated several times throughout the song, suggesting that Moodymann wants to end the conversation with this ill-informed woman because he is fed up with trying to reason with her. He also references going to work and drinking as a way to escape the situation or distract himself from his problems.

Overall, the lyrics of "No" reveal Moodymann's frustration with societal prejudices and racism that black Americans continue to face. The song highlights the challenges of navigating both personal and systemic biases and the desire to break free from these limiting attitudes and expectations.

Moodymann is anything but! Soulful and bass-driven best describes his work. Part of the 3 Chairs trio, this Detroiter has been knocking out quality house tracks for a long long time it seems.

@ladybabbleon

Got to see him play this album live when he dropped it. Goddamn that was a great show! It was so steamy that the walls were sweating!
