Float
Mooney Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Envision us as something more
In time but I'm fantasizing our love
Like the collision of a cosmic force
No matter what the time zone
Please call me from your cell phone
I'm very far from my home
Up high up high you shoved me, my love
The gravity lightening
Goodbye but I love when we talk
Chest cavity tightening
No matter what the time zone
Please call me from your cell phone
I'm very far from my home
Without you where do I go?
I know that he said to get out of his car
But love is like a head wound, I'm just seeing stars
He said up in the sky, how can you be found?
When everybody learns to live on solid ground
No matter what the time zone
Please call me from your cell phone
I'm very far from my home
Without you where do I go?
In "Float," which is one of Mooney's popular songs, the singer is expressing her love and affection for someone. She talks about how they uplift her and make her feel like they could be together beyond their current state. The opening lines "Up high up high you float me, my love" are indicative of the singer's feeling of being uplifted and taken to something greater than their current state. She's hopeful that there is more for them, and she's envisioning some sort of better future for herself and her lover.
However, she acknowledges that they live in different parts of the world and are separated by distance, but she's still hoping that they can find a way to maintain their relationship. She's longing for communication from her partner as she says "Please call me from your cell phone, I'm very far from my home."
The chorus repeats these lines to emphasize the idea that without her partner, she feels like she's lost and doesn't know where to go. In the second verse, the singer talks about how her lover ended the relationship, but they still talk, and this leaves the singer feeling upset and confused, as her "Chest cavity" tightens, meaning her heart is aching.
The last verse seems to be a reflection of the experience the singer had with her previous partner, who she visited in a car. In this verse, she talks about how he let her out of his car and how love can be like a head wound, causing pain and confusion. She refers to the partner's phrase "up in the sky, how can you be found?" indicating that the partner has given up on the relationship and thinks it's impossible for them to reconcile. Regardless, the singer emphasizes that without her lover, she doesn't know where she can go, and she wants them to communicate with her, even if they're living in different time zones.
