They had their US introduction with the release of Eva Luna on the Matador label. Fiedler departed shortly after the release of the 1994 EP, Big Good Angel (also released on Too Pure/Matador) to form Laika.
Their subsequent LP, The Sound Your Eyes Can Follow was released in the U.S. by American Recordings after being available in the UK for over a year.
The first release written solely by Dave Callahan, The Sound features P.J. Harvey and Katherine Gifford (Stereolab) guesting on extra vocal duties. This also marked the first appearance of master saxophonist Raymond Dickaty, who more recently lent his services to Lush, Stereolab, and Gallon Drunk. Raymond stayed on as a full member and became an integral part of the new Moonshake.

Too bad they didn't make anything else that sounds like this. This is very good. I wouldn't have ever heard it if this wasn't the first song I had chosen randomly from the album :)

i can immediately recognise any of the early 90's moonshake songs attributed to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Margaret_Fiedler_McGinnis all awesome if dark and demented. In that time imho the band had two distinct sounds, the other of which were the songs attributed to David Callahan (which might also be described as awesome, if dark and demented).

She has three excellent tracks in the Big Good Angel EP as well! : )

Also, try the Two Trains mini album by Moonshake.

Thanks for the insight and leads! I'll listen to Laika.

Succulent Lord Try Laika. This album was pruduced by Guy Fixsen, who produced MBV's Loveless. the singer is Margaret Fielder, who left after this album, joined Guy and formed Laika. Moonshake had a couple decent tracks on subsequent albums with the help of Stereolab's lead as well as PJ Harvey, but nothing comparative to the quiet complicated arrangements Fielder and Fixsen manage.
