Suzanne
Moose Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Everytime I see Suzanne
She looks sweet, she looks sad
I run as far as I can go
Feeling so

To where I dug myself a hole
Pictures of her that I stle
There's no darkness I have found
She's all around

She walks all over e and
I can't take it from her
She goes where she feels to
Only seems that she don't know

She may come and she may go
She may sacrifice this clone
As the darkness has to sound
All around

Everytime I see Suzanne
She looks sweet, she looks sad
I run as far as I can go
Feeling so

She walks all over me and
I can't take it from her

She goes where she feels to
Only seems that she don't know

Overall Meaning

In Moose's song "Suzanne," the singer describes his complicated feelings towards a woman named Suzanne. Every time he sees her, he notices that she looks both sweet and sad. This contradictory image seems to make him uncomfortable, as he admits that he runs as far as he can go from her. In an effort to distance himself from her, he dug himself a hole where he surrounds himself with pictures of her that he stole. Despite his efforts to escape, he cannot seem to shake her off; he insists that she's all around him and she walks all over him.

The lyrics suggest that Suzanne has some sort of power over the singer. She seems to go wherever she feels like it and the singer cannot take anything from her. He is aware that she's unpredictable and may come and go, even potentially sacrificing him at some point. The song concludes by repeating the opening lines, suggesting that the cycle of running away from Suzanne and being unable to escape her will continue. The emotions conveyed in the song are complex and the lyrics leave a lot of open-ended questions about the relationship between the singer and Suzanne.

One of the songs in ‘91 that blew my mind as to the sounds guitars can make

I knew Moose upon being given a 12' of this by a very special someone. I remember getting it on the old record player and being so overwhelmed. See, I knew Moose, but this made me 'know' them. Noise thrills...so so so so good.

Fantastic EP. Moose was an underrated band that was lumped into the shoegaze genre, but never were. Very unique and ages well.

My friend Richard used to like 530 and REM. I remember making him watch the video to this, taped from the chart show, repeatedly, still not sure if he liked it..

Song of my youth

The lady on the cover is Suzanna Arundhati Roy (otherwise known as Arundhati Roy), an Indian writer.

@9emmett9

I had NO idea that was Arundhati Roy!!
All these years...
I'm a big fan of her writing; both fiction and non-fiction.
Thanks for the tip!

@JohnPeel3904

9emmett9 I'm guessing the band's track 'Suzanne' was about her. When I first heard it, I thought it was one of the band's ex-girlfriends, until many years later when I saw the cover of the EP and realised it was Arundhati Roy, thinking why they've got a picture of her. It's only until the internet era that I realised Arunhati's real name is Suzanna Arundhati Roy. Another trivia let out of the bag !!

@HenryNer

John Peel is alive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
