Formed in 1983 … Read Full Bio ↴Moral Crux are a punk band from Ephrata, Washington.
Formed in 1983 by James Farris and Jeff Jenkins, the remaining original members. Jarred Brown plays guitar and Lee Lester drums.
They cite influences from classic bands like The Clash, Ramones, Generation X, Lou Reed, New York Dolls, The Damned, Wayne County and the Electric Chairs, Circle Jerks, and TSOL, among others.
The following is an excerpt of a Moral Crux concert review from Flipside magazine:
"Politically charged, severely (almost criminally) underrated, I suspect they'd have a much more receptive audience touring with the likes of the Queers, but I enjoyed the set quite a bit. The lead singer's the visual centerpiece, jumping, creeping, swinging around. ... What I also noticed was the bassist was phenomenal, transforming a rather simple rhythm section into a fell webbing of sound that was fuller and more satisfying than ass-simple pop-punk."

Or care about what she's gotta say
Last year we had so much fun
Now you've split and left me on the bum
Oh, oh oh
I miss you like a bullet from a firing squad
'Cause they'll only lacerate your mind
Isolate your head in the comfort zone
The remains of your brain are still unknown
Feelin' hopeless, empty inside
Bullet wound execution style
Too much time wasted in vain
Another victim
It's all the same
The Moral Crux song "Firing Squad" speaks about the pain of a broken relationship, where one person has left the other feeling abandoned and alone. The lyrics express a lack of concern for the whereabouts or opinions of the person who has moved on, while also highlighting the pain of memories that remain. The verses suggest that holding onto the memories of a past relationship can be dangerous, and lead to feelings of hopelessness and isolation. The chorus drives home this idea with the metaphor of missing someone like a bullet from a firing squad, representing the sudden and painful absence of a loved one.
The overall tone of the song is one of resignation and regret, acknowledging that time has been wasted and nothing can be done to change the situation. The lyrics paint a picture of someone who has been hurt and left behind, struggling to move on from a relationship that has ended in a painful way. However, while the song may focus on negative emotions, it also seems to offer a sense of catharsis or release - the chorus, in particular, is powerful and memorable, expressing a deeply felt sense of loss and longing.
