A punk rock band from Italy
The group, born in the lowland of Padova, was founded in 1995 by Tony Cavaliere on drums, Andrea Pegoraro on guitar and vocals, and Alessandro Andolfo on the other guitar. Shortly after, bassist Giacomo Spanò (Gigio) joined the lineup, and together they recorded their first demo. Not satisfied with the lineup, they called on Davide Finotti to sing for the group, with whom they recorded two more demos. From that moment on, their sound was clearly defined as a Californian-style punk/hardcore that aimed to incorporate more typical Italian elements. The demand for their demos continued, and they embarked on a long and challenging live activity, leading the group to release their first official album (first for Hellflip Records, then for Agitato) titled "Per non crescere", which immediately achieved great success in the Italian punk scene. Unfortunately, in 2000, during their return from a concert, they were involved in a terrifying car accident, resulting in the loss of bassist Giacomo Spanò. Deeply affected by the tragic loss of their friend, the band was undecided about the future, but ultimately, driven mainly by the desire to fulfill Giacomo's dream, they resumed their live activity with their old friend Andrea "Cyba" Berton on bass. Another change marked their history in 2000: singer Davide left, and shortly after, Pablo joined the band. The band immediately got back to work, rejuvenated by a new surge of vitality. In 2001, they released a split album with their stage companions Peter Punk, aptly titled "Peter Punk vs Moravagine" (Agitato Records). The following year, they released "Ho scritto ti amo sulla sabbia del gatto" (Lucente Records), accompanied by a tour throughout Italy. In 2003, they released "Per Non Crescere XL Edition," a compilation that included a reissue of their first album, the six songs from the split, and three new tracks that showcased their new musical direction. At the end of the tour for this album, Cyba left the band due to personal problems. A few weeks later, they began working on their new album, and with Daniele on bass (formerly from Knife), they completed the pre-production in six months. On March 1st of this year, they entered the "Mezzanima" studio in Arcore (Mi) under the direction of Sebi and with Marco Trentacoste as the mixer. After a month and a half in the studio, they mastered the album at Nautilus in Milan. Finally, in June 2004, "Diaboliko" was released under Bagana Records/V2.

Moravagine Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Che nessuno asciugherà
Ed Intervalli e caroselli si rincorrono
Prestando molta attenzione al metodo d'informazione
Ritt: Cosa non devi sapere
Cose che è meglio ignorare
Cose che è meglio ignorare
Bombe che si infrangono
Lontano dalla tua realtà
E intanto tutti parlano come sapessero
The lyrics of Moravagine's song "2002" paint a picture of a world riddled with secrets and misinformation. The opening lines describe tears falling and no one to dry them, setting a melancholic tone for the rest of the song. The following lines describe intervals and carousels chasing each other, all while paying careful attention to the method of information. This line suggests that there is a method to the madness of the world's events and that some people benefit from spreading misinformation.
The chorus repeatedly asks the listener what they should not know and what is better to ignore. The verse then describes bombs detonating far from the listener's reality, while everyone speaks as if they know what motivates the war's mechanisms. This line suggests that there is a sense of detachment from the reality of war for some people, and that many speak about war as if they know how it works without any direct experiences. The final lines describe a new, organized world developing on waves secured against the risk of the listener finding out too much. These lines suggest that there is a system in place to keep the listener from finding out crucial information, and it will remain that way.
Moravagine's "2002" is a compelling critique of how power is wielded in the world. The lyrics paint a bleak picture of a reality riddled with secrets that many are not privy to, and how this misinformation allows certain people to benefit. The song seems to posit that the world's power structures operate in such a way as to keep people in the dark and that it is essential to question what we are told constantly. Ultimately, the song's message encourages critical thinking, and it stands as a warning against blindly accepting the status quo.
