In fact, their 1989 debut, Fools Game, contained a cover of Rick James' funk classic "Superfreak," featuring scratches courtesy of DJ Aaron (Pause) Vaughn. After replacing Taffer with guitarist James Sanguinetti and making Vaughn a full-time member, the band decided to embrace their funk interests for their next, and perhaps best work, 1991's In This Life. They would record three more EPs and one final full length before disbanding in 1994.
As of 2008 the band has reformed and is planning to record a new demo.

Mordred Lyrics

Like never before
Now that I'm folding my fingers
Ready for war
The painted face of disaster
I search for more
I light another cigarette
Dressed in fire with empty words
It came as no surprise
The people conversating
Beyond all will to listen
The people will stand in lines
With great high walls between them
Coal black hair china white doll skull
With amber slit eyes
Bittersweet with a razor tongue
See through polished lies
The dim light is bathing you blood red
Adrenalin shock
I light another cigarette
Swallow the poison glossy eyed
Dressed in fire with empty words
It came as no surprise
The people conversating
Beyond all will to listen
The people will stand in lines
With great high walls between them
Looking through star dust illusions with faraway eyes
Pretending they know and understand
See through the disguise
I light another cigarette
Swallow the poison glossy eyed
Dressed in fire with empty words
It came as no surprise
The people conversating
Beyond all will to listen
The people will stand in lines
With great high walls between them
The song "Downtown" by Mordred depicts a feeling of discomfort and disillusionment with the world around them. The first verse highlights the singer's readiness for war, emphasizing the tension and conflict present within the singer. They feel a sense of emptiness and search for more in the face of disaster. The second verse suggests a lack of control over their own choices, as they continue to swallow poison and dress in fire with empty words. The chorus emphasizes the disconnection between people, as they converse beyond will to listen and stand with walls between them.
The third verse highlights the singer's disillusionment with people pretending to know and understand the world around them, seeing through the "disguise" of these people. The repetition of the chorus emphasizes the divide between people, and perhaps the futility of trying to break down those walls.
Overall, the song seems to capture a feeling of hopelessness and cynicism towards the state of the world and the people in it. The singer is left feeling disconnected and unable to connect with those around them.
