Bim Bom
Morelenbaum & Sakamoto Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

É só isso meu baião
E não tem mais nada não
O meu coração pediu assim
Só...

Bim bom
Bim, bim bom
Bim bom
Bim, bim bom
Bim bom

Bim, bim bom
Bim, bim

É só isso meu baião
E não tem mais nada não
O meu coração pediu assim
Só...

Bim bom
Bim, bim bom
Bim bom
Bim, bim bom
Bim bom

Bim, bim bom
Bim, bim

É só isso meu baião
E não tem mais nada não
O meu coração pediu assim
Só...

Bim bom
Bim, bim bom
Bim bom
Bim, bim bom
Bim bom

Bim, bim bom
Bim, bim

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Morelenbaum/Sakamoto's song Bim Bom are simple yet catchy, with repetitive phrases such as "É só isso meu baião" and "Bim bom" creating a fun and almost hypnotic effect. The baião style of music, which originated in Northeastern Brazil, is characterized by an upbeat rhythm and the use of traditional instruments such as the accordion and triangle. In this song, the lyrics suggest that all one needs is the simple pleasure of music and a happy heart, expressed through the repetition of the phrase "É só isso meu baião". The chorus of "Bim bom" further emphasizes the joyful and carefree nature of the song.

The addition of the words "Oba-la-lá" further adds to the feeling of happiness and celebration, with the lyrics suggesting that anyone who hears the song will have a happy heart. The use of the word "amálgama" in the final verse is interesting, as it means a mixture or combination of different elements. This perhaps implies the idea that the song itself is a mixture of different styles, cultures, and influences, reflecting the diversity and richness of Brazil.

Its a sound describing a heartbeat, the lyrics give the hint "...and my heart was just asking for that Baiao like this..." and then comes the "bim bom" sound. It's an Onomatopoeia...

@svennyzooi This is from A Day in New York by Morlenbaum2/Sakamoto which came out in 2003 - the album is a bossa nova gem, filled with Jobim compositions. Sadly it was the last album the trio did together. Btw - I live in the Midwest of the United States - an area not filled with Brazilians and I love samba/bossa nova and MPB.
