Hm…
Because you're mine
You better stop the things you do
No I ain't lyin'
No
I can't stand it
No, I can't stand it
The way you put me down
I put a spell on you
Because you're mine
I put a spell on you
Because you're mine
You better stop the things you do
I ain't lyin'
No, I ain't lyin'
I can't stand it
The way you're runnin' around
No, I can't stand it
The way you put me down
I put a spell on you
Because you're mine
You're mine
I put a spell on you
Because you're mine
You better stop the things you do
No, I ain't lyin'
No, I ain't lyin'
I can't stand it
The way you're runnin' around
No, I can't stand it
The way you put me down
I put a spell on you
Because you're mine
Morgan James's rendition of "I Put A Spell On You" is a soulful, passionate plea to a lover who is not treating her right. The song is originally by Screamin' Jay Hawkins, released in 1956, and has been covered numerous times since then. Morgan's version is a slower, more sensual take on the classic, but the lyrics remain just as powerful.
The first line of the song, "I put a spell on you," immediately sets the tone for the rest of the lyrics. Morgan is telling her lover that she has put a spell on him because he is hers, and she wants him to stop the things he is doing that are hurting her. She repeats this phrase throughout the song, emphasizing her control over him and her desire for him to change his ways.
The second verse of the song reiterates her frustration with his behavior, specifically the way he is "runnin' around" and "puttin' her down." She explains that she can't stand it and is taking action to try and fix the situation. When she sings "because you're mine," it's clear that she is possessive of her lover and won't tolerate anyone treating him badly.
Overall, the lyrics of the song convey a sense of power and control, mixed with vulnerability and desperation. Morgan's delivery of the lyrics is emotive and draws the listener in, making them feel the same passion and intensity that she is feeling.
