Grown-up Christmas List
Mormon Tabernacle Choir Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Do you remember me
I sat upon your knee
I wrote to you
With childhood fantasies
Well, I'm all grown up now
Can you still help somehow

I'm not a child
But my heart still can dream
So here's my lifelong wish
My grown-up Christmas list
Not for myself
But for a world in need

No more lives torn apart
That wars would never start
And time would heal all hearts
Every man would have a friend

That right would always win
And love would never end
This is my grown-up
Christmas list
What is this illusion called

The innocence of youth
Maybe only in their blind belief
Can we ever find the truth
There'd be no more lives torn apart
And wars would never start

And time would heal all hearts
Every man would have a friend
And right would always win
And love would never end

This is my grown-up Christmas list

This is my only lifelong wish
This is my grown-up Christmas list

Overall Meaning

The song "Grown-Up Christmas List" by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir is a nostalgic and hopeful song that contemplates the magical, idealistic aspects of Christmas through an adult perspective. The song is addressed to Santa Claus himself, as the singer reflects on having written to him with childhood dreams previously. Now all grown up, the singer longs for the same kind of Christmas spirit but for the wider world. Rather than asking for gifts for themselves, they hope for a world in which there is no strife through wishes such as "no more lives torn apart" and "time would heal all hearts." The song leans towards sentimentality, but its sincerity is touching as it imagines a better, more peaceful world.

The song was originally recorded by David Foster and Natalie Cole but has since become a seasonal favorite recorded by many other artists, including Kelly Clarkson, Amy Grant, and Michael Bublé. The history behind the song is interesting as it was not originally a Christmas song, being written as a letter to Santa by a child for Easter instead. Nevertheless, the power and hope behind the lyrics lend themselves well to the spirit of Christmas.

Wow!! This “My Grown up Christmas List” is it.… This is it…!

It’s the greatest Christmas Song of the 21st Century Modern World of Christmas Music that captures & embraces the Central Thematic Wish(-es) of every human being on Earth: Unity of Mankind and True World Peace at the core of humanity: Truth, Beauty & Goodness.

Hence, all these global human wishes, such as:

1. No more lives torn apart … (no more broken families!, etc…);
2. That wars would never start: that right there in every heart of each human being: these wars, big & small, covering all types of human mis-understandings, conflicts, etc., passing through & transcending Religions, Races, Peoples, Nations & Cultures in that these all wars, conflicts, etc., would have melted to Zero inside every man’s heart to give way to human understanding and KNOW that all humanity belongs to One Global Human Family of One True United Nations Family; then,
3. Time would heal all hearts: that means, where our heart is – is where each human being, a true human being on Earth lives & knows he has responsibility to make this world a HOME for everyone to live: no more cries, no more hatred; no more sufferings … that’s what GOD expects us to be: use our HEART to deal with each one, everyone on Earth so that everyone is respected in Truth, Beauty & Goodness/Kindness (Values of Human Life) to achieve understanding, compassion, justice & unity. We can never solve all human problems on Earth unless we all know deep in our hearts that GOD ever exists in our hearts. When GOD exists at the core of our Human Hearts, in all our Human Hearts, then, nothing is impossible; then we can build bridges to connect all Nations to finally build True World Peace on Earth.
4. Every man would have a friend: this simply implies that we all humanity becomes friends to all that make the true brothers and sisters for all men – no more racial discriminations; this brings us all back to No. 2 above.
5. That right [that which is truth, beauty & goodness constituting the correctness, proper, and unpretentious (honest)] would WIN over fake, false, wrong – always.
6. And love would never end …: All marriages will last a lifetime on Earth. No more breakdown(s) of hearts – all is True Love that lasts a lifetime of living together as true families of true human beings to live in true joy, true happiness on Earth.

The SONG of Christmas Wishes as One List is wished NOT for oneself but for all humanity, for the World that needs those Wishes & realize them all at the core of every human life on Earth

* How I wish (My Christmas Wish of all time on Earth…) that I am NOW singing it – with the accompaniment of our Angels of GOD above in Heavens singing it w/ love … for each and everyone of you; to all humanity on Earth so that -
Each Nation of all Member Nations of the United Nations does: acknowledge, live so, and believe so with GOD existing in each of their hearts at the core of all hearts of men to live in true love, true life & true family of humanity – finally as One United Nations Family

Thank you: David Foster & Linda Thompson. GOD keep us all SAFE, pls -
