Flying high
In the summer sky
Bird of Prey

Gently pass on by
Bird of Prey

Am I going to die
Bird of Prey
Bird of Prey
Flying high
Flying high
Take me on your flight
Morrison Jim's "Bird of Prey" is a song that captures the fear of death and one's own mortality, taking on a new perspective by examining it through the eyes of a bird. The song is straightforward in meaning, with the repetition of "flying high" and "Bird of Prey" creating a haunting vernacular, in which Morrison is addressing a bird of prey, imploring it to take him with it on its flight. He questions whether his time has come, whether he is to die, and the bird of prey almost serves as a psychopomp, leading him to the afterlife. The song is both melancholic and awe-inspiring, as Morrison's acceptance of his fate is drawn from the majestic flight of the bird.
The song has a spiritual element to it, invoking the image of a bird of prey as a harbinger of doom or rebirth. Morrison's vocals lend themselves well to the subject matter, as the haunting quality makes it seem as though the song is emanating from beyond the veil. The fear present in the lyrics is palpable, and the song can be interpreted as a meditation on the inevitability of death.

Last year I visited Pere Lachaise and Jimbo's grave, back then I was not a big Doors listener and Jim Morrison was just another famous rock star to me. Shortly after that I started really listening to The Doors and now they are my favourite band. I also realised what a special and legendary person Jim was and I regret that I didn't realise it before when I stood near his grave. I plan on returning to Paris as soon as possible and pay proper tribute to the Lizard King.
