Motörhead released 23 studio albums, 10 live recordings, 12 compilation albums and five EPs over a career spanning 40 years. Usually a power trio, they had particular success in the early 1980s with several successful singles in the UK Top 40 chart. The albums Overkill, Bomber, Ace of Spades and, particularly, the live album No Sleep 'til Hammersmith cemented Motörhead's reputation as a top-tier rock band. The band are ranked number 26 on VH1's 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock. As of 2016, they have sold more than 15 million albums worldwide.
Most often classified as heavy metal, Motörhead has been credited with being part of and influencing numerous musical scenes, thrash metal and speed metal especially. Lemmy, however, always insisted that they were a rock and roll band. He said that they had more in common with punk bands, but with their own unique sound, Motörhead is embraced in both punk and metal scenes. Their lyrics typically covered such topics as war, good versus evil, abuse of power, promiscuous sex, substance abuse and, most famously, gambling, the latter theme being the focus of their hit song "Ace of Spades".
Lemmy died on 28 December 2015 from cardiac arrhythmia and congestive heart failure, after being diagnosed with prostate cancer. The day after his death, drummer Mikkey Dee and guitarist Phil Campbell both confirmed that Motörhead had disbanded. By 2018, all three members of Motörhead's best-known line-up (Lemmy, Taylor and Clarke) had died.

Motörhead Lyrics

All the past is a dream,
Can't believe that I'm here,
Now, seems so hard to recall,
Did it happen that way, did it happen at all,
Here we are, win or lose, good and bad, fast and lose,
Here we are, black and gold, in another time.
The refection is flawed, all the mirrors are cracked,
Strange how the glass seems to sing,
But the words are like death, they could be anything,
Here we are, win or draw, badly used, badly scored,
Here we are, gone before, in another time.
Look through the eyes of the mask,
Tell me what do you see, can you make out the facts
Could in the arms of the dead,
I still hear them talk, telling jokes in my head,
Here we are before the dawn, cold and black, death and scorn,
Here they are, lust and grief, to oversee the crime,
In the days before the plague, never spoke, eyes like blades,
Here and now, fear and grief, in another time
The lyrics to Motörhead's song "In Another Time" are reflective and introspective. The singer considers the passing of time and how memories from the past can seem distant and difficult to recall in the present. The opening lines suggest a sense of disbelief at being where they are now, as if it were impossible to imagine having arrived here from the past. The lyrics convey a sense of nostalgia for the past while acknowledging that time moves on, whether for better or worse.
The second verse, with its imagery of dust on a mirror and cracked reflections, emphasizes the impermanence of life and memory. The glass "sings" with the voices of the past but the words are like death, empty and meaningless. The chorus repeats, emphasizing the idea that the past is gone and cannot be returned to, and that what remains is a mix of good and bad experiences.
The third verse continues with the theme of memories and their impact on the present. The singer poses a question about looking through a mask and seeing what is truly there. The image of being in the arms of the dead is eerie and unsettling, heightening the sense of loss and mortality. The final lines suggest a certain fatalism about life, as if there is no escape from fear and grief, even in "another time."
