Motörhead released 23 studio albums, 10 live recordings, 12 compilation albums and five EPs over a career spanning 40 years. Usually a power trio, they had particular success in the early 1980s with several successful singles in the UK Top 40 chart. The albums Overkill, Bomber, Ace of Spades and, particularly, the live album No Sleep 'til Hammersmith cemented Motörhead's reputation as a top-tier rock band. The band are ranked number 26 on VH1's 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock. As of 2016, they have sold more than 15 million albums worldwide.
Most often classified as heavy metal, Motörhead has been credited with being part of and influencing numerous musical scenes, thrash metal and speed metal especially. Lemmy, however, always insisted that they were a rock and roll band. He said that they had more in common with punk bands, but with their own unique sound, Motörhead is embraced in both punk and metal scenes. Their lyrics typically covered such topics as war, good versus evil, abuse of power, promiscuous sex, substance abuse and, most famously, gambling, the latter theme being the focus of their hit song "Ace of Spades".
Lemmy died on 28 December 2015 from cardiac arrhythmia and congestive heart failure, after being diagnosed with prostate cancer. The day after his death, drummer Mikkey Dee and guitarist Phil Campbell both confirmed that Motörhead had disbanded. By 2018, all three members of Motörhead's best-known line-up (Lemmy, Taylor and Clarke) had died.

Another girl, another face,
Another truce, another race,
I'm eating junk, feeling bad,
Another night, I'm going mad,
My woman's leaving, I feel sad,
But I just love the life I lead,
Another beer is what I need,
We are the road crew
Another town I've left behind,
Another drink completely blind,
Another hotel I can't find,
Another backstage pass for you,
Another tube of super glue,
Another border to get through,
I'm driving like a maniac,
Driving my way to hell and back,
Another room a case to pack,
We are the road crew
Another hotel we can burn,
Another screw, another turn,
Another Europe map to learn,
Another truck stop on the way,
Another game I learn to play,
Another word I learn to say,
Another bloody customs post,
Another fucking foreign coast,
Another set of scars to boast,
We are the road crew
Motörhead's song The Road Crew is a tribute to the band's roadies, who are often underappreciated and unrecognized for their work. The lyrics detail the experiences of a typical touring musician, moving from town to town, playing gigs, and dealing with the challenges and risks that come with life on the road.
The opening verse presents a familiar scene of a traveling musician, with the repetition of the word "another" emphasizing the monotonous routine of touring. The mention of "eating junk, feeling bad" highlights the lack of healthy food options while traveling, which can take a toll on a person's physical and mental well-being. The reference to a woman leaving adds a touch of melancholy to the song, but the repeated phrase "I just love the life I lead" suggests that the ups and downs of touring are worth it for the rewards of playing music and connecting with fans.
The second verse continues to paint a picture of the difficulties of being on the road, from getting lost in unfamiliar cities to dealing with customs checkpoints. The line "driving like a maniac" speaks to the urgency and intensity of touring, with the goal of making it to the next gig on time. The chorus, "we are the road crew," not only celebrates the hard work of the unsung heroes who make touring possible, but also acknowledges the shared experiences of everyone involved in the music industry.
Overall, The Road Crew is a fast and furious tribute to those who work tirelessly behind the scenes of a rock band, as well as a window into the chaotic and exhilarating world of touring.
