Jailbait
Motӧrhead Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Still tied to mama's apron strings
I don't even dare to ask your age
Just enough to know you're here backstage
You're jailbait and I just can't wait
Jailbait, baby come on
Hey!
One taste, baby all I need
My decision made at lightning speed
I don't even want to know your name
It's enough to know you feel the same
Jailbait and I just can't wait
Jailbait baby, get down
Hey!
Love that young stuff
Tell me baby, how you look so fine
Send quivers up and down my spine
I don't care about our different ages
I'm an open book with well-thumbed pages
Jailbait, I ain't too late
Jailbait baby, get down
All right!
The lyrics of Motӧrhead's song "Jailbait" can be seen as problematic and controversial in today's context. The song seems to glorify and normalize the sexualization of underage girls, with the lead singer expressing his excitement and eagerness to engage in sexual activity with a young girl, who is referred to as "jailbait" throughout the song.
The first verse indicates that the girl is still tied to mama's apron strings, implying that she is not yet independent enough to make her own decisions and therefore vulnerable to exploitation. The second verse emphasizes the singer's impulsive nature and lack of concern for the girl's identity or age, with the phrase "My decision made at lightning speed" suggesting that he is not thinking through the ethical ramifications of his actions. The chorus repeats the phrase "Jailbait and I just can't wait," emphasizing the singer's predatory desires.
The final verse, however, adds a slightly different twist to the song. The singer acknowledges the age difference between himself and the girl but dismisses it as insignificant, stating that he is an "open book with well-thumbed pages." This could be interpreted as a defense of the singer's right to pursue sexual relationships regardless of age, or as a sign that he recognizes the potential consequences of his actions but chooses to ignore them.
Overall, the lyrics of "Jailbait" are unsettling and uncomfortable to listen to, especially in light of contemporary conversations around consent and the exploitation of minors.

I dunno what to say about this man
id like to believe that lemmy did not write the lyrics from his own experiences
he doesnt seem like someone who would do this and he clearly knows its wrong.
sure he lived the rock and roll lifestyle but i dont believe he made a decision that would cause harm to an innocent person.
besides, in all his years even today there has been no SA victim calling him out when they have all the opportunity to.
I really consider lemmy a great honest man and i truly hope he was never like that kinda person. but reality can be cruel
