The group was formed in 1998 and released three studio albums before disbanding in late 2005. Motor Ace received heavy radio rotation in Australia especially at Triple J early in their career as well as promotion for their touring schedule. This resulted in their debut album, Five Star Laundry debuting at #4 on the ARIA album chart. Death Defy, one of the Singles from Five Star Laundry, featured as the theme song to the popular Australia television show The Secret Life of Us.
Their second album, Shoot This was similarly successful, debuting at #1 on the ARIA chart, although the album was not as well received among fans due to slower pace of the album. The lead single to Shoot This, Carry On was their most commerically successful single reaching the top 20 in the singles chart. In 2003, Motor Ace went on a hiatus that lasted more than a year. The band returned with a new album in 2005, Animal which marked a change in sound for the band as the songs were more emotive, and less straight upbeat rock. While Animal received good reviews in the press, the album was by far the least successful commercially as it dropped out of the ARIA top 40 after three weeks. Following a national tour, Motor Ace announced that they would split at the end of the year with final dates announced.

Count the hours since he left his boots behind
Still in limbo think I'll stay up late
This infomercial's got me lifting weights for you
I'm sober
Is it over now?
Nights gone i'm still waiting
what's this myth said we'd have good times?
I can't seem, to find, find my impulsive side
Just excuses and the lies
Simple things ain't gonna make me survive
This rock'n'roll thing still gives me life
and it's not gonna change
is it all that strange?
I'm sober
Is it over now?
Nights gone I'm still waiting
Another drink could save my life
Someone else standing in my shoes
Count the hours since he left his boots behind
Still in limbo think I'll stay up late
Lorenzo lamas got me lifting fucking weights for you
Yeah, I'm sober
Is it over now?
Nights gone I'm still waiting
Another drink could save my life
Tonight, yeah yeahah
The song "Lorenzo" by Motor Ace, is a poignant reflection on the aftermath of a breakup. The lyrics describe the singer, who is struggling to come to terms with his loss, trying to distract himself from his pain by staying up late and watching infomercials about fitness equipment. The mention of Lorenzo Lamas, a well-known fitness icon from the 90s, adds a touch of nostalgia and serves as a reminder of simpler times.
The lines "What's this myth said we'd have good times? I can't seem, to find, find my impulsive side. Just excuses and the lies. Simple things ain't gonna make me survive" indicate that the singer is feeling disillusioned and disillusioned with the relationship. He has lost the ability to take risks and have fun, instead relying on alcohol to dull the pain. However, the rock'n'roll lifestyle still holds some appeal, and the singer finds comfort in its familiarity.
The chorus, "I'm sober, is it over now? Night's gone I'm still waiting, another drink could save my life", expresses the desperation of the singer as he tries to numb his pain with alcohol. He is searching for a way to forget his troubles and move on, yet knows that drinking will only cause further harm. The repetition of "I'm sober" emphasizes the singer's struggle to maintain sobriety and resist the urge to give in to his pain.
