I Can Show You How It Is
Mott Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Always burned, you've never learned the times when not to fight,
You're always hurtin', never certain that the time was right,
Always being insecure's the price you have to pay
Sometimes it ain't wrong to follow, I can show you the way.

I can show you how it is.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Mott's song "I Can Show You How It Is" delves into the theme of offering guidance and support to someone who has been struggling in their life. The opening lines of the song suggest that the person being addressed has a tendency to be confrontational and to pick fights, resulting in them being "always burned" and never having learned "the times when not to fight". The next line, "you're always hurtin', never certain that the time was right" adds to the sense of insecurity and confusion that the person is going through, and suggests that they might be having difficulty with their own judgment.

However, the chorus of the song provides a solution to this dilemma: "sometimes it ain't wrong to follow, I can show you the way." Here, the singer offers to help the person in question, indicating that they have experience and insight that can be useful to them. The overall message of the song is one of hope and encouragement, urging the listener to seek out guidance and support when they need it.

In summary, "I Can Show You How It Is" is a song that speaks to the human desire for guidance and support in times of difficulty. By acknowledging the struggles that people can face in their lives and offering a message of hope and encouragement, the song provides a powerful reminder of the importance of seeking out help when it is needed.

Have recently acquired two separate copies of this album (a Canadian pressing and a UK pressing) and neither have sound repeating endlessly at the end of the record as demonstrated in this clip.

On both copies the sound ends at around 02.50 in this clip BEFORE the run out groove. I also have the cassette of this album and it ends exactly the same way.

Was the locked groove only on certain pressings of the album?
