Men
Mourn Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Many times I said
that I would like to be heard
It’s not easy, you see
when they’re speaking over me
I’m not being respected
at my work
I’m walking the streets
and in their faces I can feel
my pure existence is constantly

Deceiving their sight, their taste, their mouth, their head, their ears,
their stomach, their feet, their tongue, their teeth, their guts, their
brain, their arms, their hands, their hips, their lips.

I don’t really trust men

Careful, careful what you say
Shut up, will you calm down?
In their eyes I am weak
In their fragile eyes

My boundaries are
disrespected all times
They think they do things FOR me
but they’re doing them TO me

In their eyes I am meat
Selfish eyes
In their eyes I can see
In their fragile eyes

Their pride, their voice, their thoughts, their lust, their shame,

their power, their feels, their knowledge, their questions, their ego,
their sons, their dreams, their hopes, their limits, their joy.

Overall Meaning

The song Men by Mourn reflects on the challenges women face while trying to get their voices heard in society. The first verse of the song talks about the desire to be heard and the difficulty that comes with it. The singer highlights that she is not being respected at work and faces challenges walking in public spaces, where she feels that her existence is being constantly deceived.

The chorus "Deceiving their sight, their taste, their mouth, their head, their ears, their stomach, their feet, their tongue, their teeth, their guts, their brain, their arms, their hands, their hips, their lips" speaks on how women constantly struggle to gain respect and their voices are not being heard. They are not taken seriously and often have to put up with being talked over.

The second verse of the song talks about how men disrespect their boundaries and assume they know what is best for them. The phrase "In their eyes, I am meat" reflects on how some men see women as objects to fulfill their own desires. And yet again, the chorus highlights how women are constantly struggling to be seen and heard.

Overall, the song sends a strong message about the struggles of being a woman in our society and how real change is necessary for equality to exist.
