Gold Coast rockers Mourning Tide… Read Full Bio ↴Gold Coast, Australia: 2000-present
Gold Coast rockers Mourning Tide began in 2000, as four friends with the same vision: to be the most entertaining and unique band in the emerging hardcore/metal scene. Touring hard and partying harder has earned them a strong local following on the East Coast.
In 2003, Mourning Tide released their successful self-titled debut EP, through Modern Music/Sony/BMG. From this success, Mourning Tide have supported and toured with international guests - Eighteen Visions, Every Time I Die, Strung Out, Soilwork, Throwdown, On Broken Wings, Cro Mags and hometown boys - Parkway Drive, I Killed the Prom Queen, and After The Fall.
Although Mourning Tide has been through a major line-up change within the last year, the change has been welcomed, inspiring the members to take on a new direction with their material.
August 2006 saw the arrival of Mourning Tide's highly anticipated debut full-length entitled, Trash 'N' Burn. Trash 'N' Burn is an explosive album, fusing brutality, glamour & sleazy rock. While maintaining the ferocious and intense metal sound of their self-titled EP, the new album sees a triumphant return to early 80's rock n roll, complete with wailing guitar solos and dirty rock vocals.
With a loyal fan base continuing to grow Australia-wide and a reputation for their blistering live shows, Mourning Tide have produced a mind-blowing LP, that will dazzle their current fans and excite new listeners looking for something out of the ordinary.
EVOL
Mourning Tide Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The lyrics to "Evol" by Mourning Tide convey a powerful message about the destructive nature of seeking superiority through violence. The opening lines urge the listener to restrain themselves from killing, indicating that the song is addressing someone who has already taken violent action. The following line about trying to wash the blood from their hands suggests that the person may feel remorse for their actions, but the final phrase "it won't wash with us" implies that the damage has already been done and cannot be undone.
The next section of the lyrics refers to the many corpses that have been left in the person's wake, indicating that their actions have had severe consequences. The phrase "traitor Judas you evol" is a strong condemnation, likening the person to Judas Iscariot, who betrayed Jesus in the Bible. The word "evol" is likely a play on the word "evil", emphasizing the person's wrongdoing.
The final section of the lyrics describes the person being buried in a mass grave and losing their spark, indicating that they are now defeated and powerless. The line "for every life that you've smashed another scar is added" highlights the ongoing consequences of violence, as each person who is killed leaves a mark on the world. The final repetition of "Evol" serves as a powerful ending, emphasizing the destructive nature of the person's actions.
